Testo and Daikin foster collaboration in HVAC/R
To enhance support for end users, facility management, maintenance teams and education institutions within the Brazilian HVAC/R industry, Daikin Brazil and Testo Brazil have embarked on a strategic partnership, elevating HVAC/R service and training to new heights.
Measurement applications and integration possibilities
In recent years, the Brazilian HVAC/R market has experienced significant growth, propelled by a rising need for climate control solutions. Daikin’s market expansion in Brazil is influenced by its pioneering role in transitioning from R-410A to R-32. This transition helps operators reduce electrical energy consumption and lower their CO2 footprint. R-32 not only efficiently conveys heat but also possesses a global warming potential (GWP) that is only about one- third of R-410A. Daikin’s expertise in the conversion to R-32 has garnered high acclaim and numerous awards, solidifying its position as an industry leader in environmentally sustainable HVAC solutions. To install and maintain these systems, precise
measurement instruments are essential, and companies like the German-based Testo offer comprehensive solutions. These instruments typically include compact air conditioning and refrigeration test kits equipped with high-pressure or differential pressure measuring instruments, clamp or infrared thermometers, hygrometers for measuring moisture content, and anemometers for assessing air velocity. Alongside leakage detection instruments to ensure system tightness and prevent unnecessary refrigerant waste, testo provides additional supporting equipment such as volume flow hoods, offering a complete range for HVAC/R service tasks – whether it’s about adjusting the air temperature and flow for optimum indoor climate, to adjust the system for achieving better energy efficiency or to control moisture which is the most critical factor for preventing mold growth. Notably, special emphasis is placed on the application of innovative smart digital manifolds like the testo 570s, specifically designed for tasks such as charging, evacuation, adjustment, and long-term performance testing of heat pumps and refrigerating units. By adopting this approach, the Testo 570s achieves highly precise measurement results with consistent accuracy, surpassing the capabilities of analog manifolds. It continuously updates refrigerant information and autonomously calculates essential system parameters. By leveraging the Bluetooth connectivity feature
integrated into the majority of the testo measurement instruments, conducting measurements and documentation becomes effortlessly manageable through a mobile phone and the Testo Smart App. This complimentary application, compatible with all Testo Smart Probes, empowers operators to utilise a tablet or smartphone as a secondary screen during
measurements. Additionally, intuitive measurement menus, user-friendly documentation, and the capability to send measurement reports in PDF or Excel formats assist technicians in fine-tuning refrigeration and air conditioning systems, optimizing heat pumps, evaluating indoor air quality and comfort levels, and enhancing ventilation systems. Moreover, these features not only save time but also enhance the overall enjoyment of working with these advanced digital instruments. Today, Testo’s smart digital manifolds seamlessly
integrate into Daikin’s equipment commissioning processes, providing effortless, rapid, and accurate control over superheat, subcooling, pressure leak tests, evacuation procedures, delta-T measurements, and compressor tests (Figure 1).
Cooperation and synergies
To address the substantial surge in installation capacity, the need for optimising operational efficiency and the growing demand for training new personnel, Daikin Brazil and Testo Brazil have joined forces to initiate the “Daikin Eagles” project. This collaborative effort involves providing training sessions and lectures across Brazil, with the objective of showcasing the cutting-edge technologies offered by both brands. Renowned globally as leaders in their respective sectors, this initiative aims to meet the escalating demand and ensure the continuous advancement of expertise in the field. In February 2023, the collaboration between Dakin
Brazil and Testo Brazil was unveiled at the Febrava event (Figure 2). Since this announcement, the partnership has evolved significantly. Both companies endorse numerous influencers and mediators, who extensively employ Daikin equipment and Testo instruments for installations, presentations, and training sessions at major industry events. These gatherings can draw up to 300 technicians each time. Daikin and Testo representatives’ participation highlights the companies’ dedication to assisting technicians, especially those with limited experience in HVAC/R. The focus extends to digital natives who strive to stay at the forefront of the industry trends and are eager to work with cutting-edge equipment. By implementing innovative solutions, the objective is to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency, with resulting cost savings. Furthermore, in 2023 Testo seized the opportunity to furnish key Daikin training centers, laboratories, the company’s service helpdesk, and the application engineering department with cutting-edge

measurement equipment (Figure 3). This strategic move allows Daikin Brazil to set a new benchmark for instruments across its operations, which is also supported by having implemented a special “Daikin Club” in the Testo Smart App that gives certified Daikin service technicians access to special discounts and further product support. Both companies, Daikin and Testo have been
actively promoting their partnership “Daikin Eagles” while sharing application knowledge on various events and social media platforms, helping technicians all over Brazil and beyond to be trained and increase their expertise. The initiative is well received and appreciated within the HVAC/R community, as can be seen from the positive feedback and comments received. “The partnership between Daikin and Testo offers a variety of improved solutions for our installation partners, including standardisation of installation services, following industry best practices “, says Diego Camargos, commercial manager at Daikin Brazil. “We firmly believe that this collaboration will result in significant achievements for both companies.”
Looking into the future
Weslei Batista, Market Manager HVACR at Testo Brazil states: “Testo’s and Daikin’s collaborative efforts have fostered a closer relationship with technicians and installers in Brazil, thereby enhancing and promoting the recognition of both brands in the market. Our upcoming initiatives involve comprehensive training sessions for participants of the Daikin Eagles project and Daikin certified technicians.
