Free heat gains with expansion of award-winning NVHR range

B

reathing Buildings has added to its award-winning natural ventilation with heat recycling (NVHR) range with its new

NVHR® 1700.

This larger unit is suitable for leisure centres, halls, sport facilities, shopping centres, offices, schools, and other buildings with high heat gains, with the NVHR® 1700 offering excellent ventilation and thermal comfort. Meanwhile, in

school classroom applications the NVHR® 1700 now allows one unit to be specified rather than two, which means a simpler and quicker installation. The NVHR® 1700 offers enhanced natural ventilation with hybrid technology in a slimline, compact, lightweight and energy efficient unit. The unit is designed to fulfil the ventilation needs automatically with its demand-controlled equipment, best-in-class flowrate, low noise levels and low energy consumption. The NVHR® 1700 leads the way in efficiency with specific fan power levels as low as 0.08 W/l/s and in larger applications provides airflow rates as high as 540l/s. “The NVHR® 1700 is the ideal ventilation solution for your rooms, making use of their free heat gains to provide superb air quality and excellent thermal comfort without the upfront cost and future maintenance bills – essential in an energy and cost of living crisis,” said Louise McHugh, Operations Leader at Breathing Buildings. “NVHR® provides ultra-low energy, natural ventilation with hybrid technology, offering energy savings and so reducing operating costs.”

Mitsubishi Electric upgrades flagship ventilation system

M

itsubishi Electric has upgraded its trusted flagship Lossnay ventilation range, with the new LGH-RVX3-E system designed for the UK’s commercial buildings. The units can extract stale indoor air continuously and efficiently, and replace it with

fresh filtered air from outside. With heat recovery, the system also minimises the amount of energy lost by recovering the heat from the extracted air and transferring it to the supply of fresh air.

Hern Yau, Ventilation Product Manager at Mitsubishi Electric, said: “Maintaining good indoor air quality is imperative for commercial buildings, and the new units will enable every space to benefit. It can also work in conjunction with our Mr Slim and City Multi air conditioning systems to deliver fresh, energy efficient comfort.”

The new system features a host of improvements to enhance performance, efficiency and versatility – all while reducing running costs. The units can now be installed vertically for the first time, to allow for use in more spaces and make quality ventilation accessible to a wider range of buildings. Enhanced controls, with five different levels, allow for optimal efficiency, and fan speeds can also be adjusted in 5% increments to use less energy where possible and comply with Part L. The system is also designed to operate at ultra-low noise levels.

Gilberts’ louvres go sky high A

new, two-storey high rooftop skybar with 360° panoramic views of the Liverpool cityscape in the iconic Echo Building has utilised air movement technology from Gilberts of Blackpool. The challenge for the skybar constructor, Glassrooms Architectural Glazing, was to ensure adequate airflow out of the structure to maintain a relaxing and pleasant experience for all occupants, whilst keeping the clean aesthetics.

The answer was Gilberts’ WHZ high performance louvres, which were installed in a continuous 24m long screen around the top of the 6m high glazing. Insulated panels have been integrated into the screen to match the U value of the overall building envelope. A slimline aluminium bird guard has also been included at the rear of the louvre blades. The WHZ louvre system is 99.5% effective in screening and exhaust applications, achieving extraction via its 40% nett free ventilation area with outstanding weather protection- critical at the high altitude. Keith Nethercott, Director/Partner at Glassrooms, explained: “We needed high performance, but, as the louvres are integrated into the glass façade, we needed a slimline solution, rather than the conventional technique of using double- or even triple- banks of louvres. We have used Gilberts before: they understand the work and considerations and give us great technical support.”

Omnie adds AL HEX heat diffuser technology to UFH systems

O

mnie, the underfloor heating specialist, will be incorporating the advanced AL HEX aluminium diffuser technology on all its foiled underfloor heating systems, as standard, with immediate effect. The patented AL HEX foil, with its trademark hexagonal pattern, increases

the in-channel foiled surface area that is in contact with the warm water pipe. The result is greater heat output, faster heat transfer and a more even heat distribution across a floor area, plus it avoids the risk of damage due to heat ‘striping’.

Striping is caused when heat in the warm water pipe doesn’t diffuse into the floor panel effectively and, instead, creates hot spots and hot lines on the floor surface finish.

Brendan Hourican, OMNIE’s managing director says: “Because it is so efficient at transferring heat, AL HEX works very well with lower water temperatures. This means it improves the performance of the underfloor heating, which is a huge benefit when the system is paired with a heat pump. Right now, homeowners want efficient heating. They want to feel the benefit of every kilowatt of energy they are paying for, to lower the cost of their heating and still stay warm in winter. AL HEX diffuser foil fitted to their underfloor heating panels will help them achieve this.”
