An IAQ standard

I

ndoor air quality has become the buzz phrase within the industry since earlier last year when the Royal College of Physicians’ report revealed some shocking facts about air

pollution, including indoor air pollution. It’s an issue that has been covered extensively by HVR in the

past year with many companies offering product solutions to protect quality of air in commercial buildings. Indeed there has been so much talk on the subject, that I was delighted to hear this week that experts from across the industry had come together on National Clean Air Day, June 15, to discuss a range of issues related to indoor air quality. The plan is to begin working on a new IAQ standard that will hopefully be adopted across the industry to improve the quality of our indoor air and in doing so, our health and well-being. With more than 70 per cent of office workers expressing

concern about the quality of the air around them, the timing for this is perfect. BESA’s news analysis explains what has been happening and you can read it on pg 12. • We have a very important addition to HVR this month, and a new era for the magazine, as we introduce HVR Domestic. The feature is a comprehensive guide packed with news, advice and opinion and we will run it

every month. It starts on pg 29. Also featured this month we have CHP, fan coil units, filters and air cleaning and the latest from the HVAC & Refrigeration Show.

Heather Ramsden, Editor AWARDSWA AWA DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 28

has been extended to Friday, July 28. From the new ‘Wholesaler/Distributor of the Year’ to the returning ‘Trainee of

C

the Year’ accolade, the 2017 HVR Awards embraces all aspects of this industry and will shine a light on all of those who go above and beyond the call of duty. Being the recipient of a HVR Award differentiates an organisation from its

competitors and enhances its reputation within the heating, ventilating and air conditioning sectors. Entering this year’s awards is easier than ever, as companies are invited to perfect their applications and submit their examples of excellence and achievement via the online form found at www.hvrawards.com Those within the industry are also invited to submit nominations online for any

companies or individuals who they believe are a shining star and deserve recognition for their outstanding work and commitment. Entries and nominations for the Wholesaler/Distributor of the Year, Customer

Service Person of the Year and Trainee of the Year categories will then face an industry vote to decide who the rightful recipient of the HVR Award is. The remaining categories, which include Commercial/Industrial Ventilation

Product of the Year, Commercial/Industrial Heating Product of the Year, Commercial/Industrial Air Conditioning Product of the Year, Sustainable Product of the Year, Sustainable Project of the Year and Contractor of the Year, will be judged by an independent panel of experts to be announced shortly. This year’s winners will be revealed at an Awards Gala to be held at London’s Chelsea Harbour Hotel on Thursday, October 26. The HVR event has been backed by several sponsors, including BESA, Albion Valves, Brymec, Marflow, Stokvis Energy Systems and Toshiba Air Conditioning, Altecnic, SBS, Wilo & The HVAC & Refrigeration Show.
