SBS has teamed up with CIBSE to offer CPD courses; Rinnai has launched three new boiler models; GF Piping Systems takes a step forward in facilitating the use of BIM; an energy efficient system from Panasonic has been used at Capita’s new call centre; Kingspan Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation has been installed at Airedale’s new HQ and Big Foot Systems has provided a solution for the Ruhr University Bochum in Germany.

SBS

CPD courses are now available with Smith Brothers Stores (SBS). The company is teaming up with the professional body CIBSE, to offer the courses to mechanical design engineers, consultants or specifiers. These will be an introduction to multi-layer composite pipes (MLCP), cover- ing the technology, benefits, advantages and considerations for application in the building services environment. This will also include demonstrations featuring the Aquatechnik brand of MLCP, including installation and jointing. Each course will last one hour, will be free of charge and can be held at your own location. For specific information about the course please contact Ri- chard Skinner by email at richard.skinner@sbs.co.uk or for general enquir- ies please contact Emma Purday by email at emma.purday@sbs.co.uk. www.sbs.co.uk

GF Piping Systems

Manufacturer of building services pipework systems, GF Piping Systems has taken a further step forward in facilitating the use of BIM by adding the EcoFIT range to the product selection available to specifiers in the 3D format. The EcoFIT BIM objects have been added to an on line library which already covers the COOL-FIT 2.0, INSTAFLEX, AQUASYSTEM and malleable iron product ranges, making it even easier for project consultants and M&E specialists to specify GF. Importantly, BIM for GF products have been created to operate with the industry’s preferred platform, Autodesk Revit. A spokesperson for George Fischer said: “Basically BIM is about everyone on a project understanding the building through the use of a digital 3D model and our suites of BIM objects will allow Revit users to get optimum benefit from specifying our products – through to Level 2 and Level 3 applications. www.gfps.com/uk

Kingspan

After suffering fire damage in 2013, Airedale Inter- national Air Conditioning’s HQ needed to be rebuilt on a tight schedule. Kingspan Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation was installed on the successful rebuild in Rawdon, Leeds, due to its wide operating temperature envelope which suited the capabilities of its R&D centre. BAM Construction used BIM at the design stage and made the decision to have the development as a turnkey project to help save time and resources. Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation was specified and is available as a BIM object from the BIMStore and from the Kingspan website. All pipe insulation used was required to have FM Approval. Kooltherm FM Pipe In- sulation is FM Approved per Approval Standard Class 4924. It also offers a European Reaction to Fire classification of BL,s1,d0, and was installed on the pipework by thermal insulation contractors, Western Thermal Limited. www.kingspanindustrialinsulation.com

Rinnai

Rinnai has launched three condensing models nto the com- mercial gas-fired boiler marketplace. The new boilers, German-manufactured to high spec in materials, build and components are built to last and offer high quality construction and en- gineering alongside top energy efficiencies. The Infinity condensing boiler range is available for natural gas and LPG operation and comes with innovative controls maximising energy efficiencies through weather com- pensation technology. The Infinity boiler is A rated under the ErP directive. The boilers come in 50kW, 75kW and 100kW versions and are maintenance and installer friendly. They are accessed from the front and require minimal space for installation, thus helping to reduce cost and time required on site. The 50kW, 75kW and 100kW versions all have an efficiency of 93%. www.rinnaiuk.com

Panasonic

When Capita established a new call centre at the Ling- field Point business park, sustainability was key in the refurbishment. This included the heating and cooling system, for which M&E consultant Quinnross specified an energy efficient Panasonic system with advanced control technology. Working with distribu- tor ESS, Quinnross specified the Panasonic ECO G 3 way system, to take ad- vantage of the abundant gas supply on the site and is known for its energy efficiency and ease of installation. The ECO G 3 way system uses gas, instead of electricity, to provide the power to draw in air and generate heat. This greatly decreased the load on the electricity supply at the Capita site, allowing it to be used for other essential systems that had to be installed. The ECO G 3 way can also be powered using LPG, meaning that if there were ever an interruption to the main gas supply, the units could still function. www.panasonic.com/global

Big Foot Systems

Big Foot Systems has supplied an extensive custom Safe Access solution to the Zemos Research Building at the Ruhr University Bochum in Germany. Work was completed in 2016 and Big Foot Systems impressed with its technical ability, reliability and non-penetrative Safe Access system. Rooftop plant included four heat pumps and three dry air coolers, located on the research building’s flat roof. Safe access was required to maintain the plant and the planners wanted a non-penetrative system. Big Foot carried out an initial site visit where it became clear that the project would be more complex than most safe access projects. Due to the small roof area and the large amount of work required to install each platform, the installation was broken down into two phases with separate deliveries and crane lifts. Big Foot Technical attended site on several occasions to aid the installation team and ensure the process ran as smoothly as possible. www.bigfootsupport.com
