Heat networks power low-carbon heating

A

s the UK accelerates towards its 2050 Net Zero target, it is becoming increasingly clear that decarbonising heat cannot rely on a single solution. In this context, heat networks are emerging

as a critical part of the low-carbon heating mix. This issue of HVR highlights the growing momentum behind low

carbon heat networks, particularly in major regeneration and mixed-use schemes. Large-scale developments are already demonstrating how shared heat infrastructure can deliver meaningful carbon reductions, provided projects are supported by early collaboration between developers, architects and utilities specialists. Alongside network design, attention is also turning to the components that sit within buildings. Advances in heat interface units are helping to improve efficiency, controllability and user experience, but further progress will be needed if heat networks are to achieve wider adoption. Real-world projects continue to underline the potential impact with new district heating schemes supplying hundreds of homes already delivering substantial carbon savings, proving that heat networks are not a future concept but a proven, practical solution. Our heat networks feature starts on page 12.
