Get multi-skilled in 2022
Mark Krull, Director for Logic4training, explains why becoming a multi-skilled installer is a good business move in 2022
Route to a new career T
he construction sector is experiencing a dramatic skills shortage which is the primary cause of worry for specialist contractors
going into 2022. According to a recent survey, in which more than 200 contractors were polled in mid-November 2021, almost two in every five firms (39%) named skills shortages as their most pressing business concern. Over half of respondents said they had vacancies, citing a shortage of applicants and/or candidates with the required skills and qualifications. These concerns are mirrored by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), which found that last September and October had the highest number of unfilled construction jobs on record. For people working in construction-based fields, or thinking of getting into this sector, there has never been a better time to find work and the more skills you can bring the table, the more in demand you will be. drive to become more green, and the push for training existing installers and attracting new ones becomes very pressing. You’re already in, it’s time to upskill The majority of HVR readers will already be working in construction and more specifically, building services’ fields. You may be a business suffering from the aforementioned skills shortage, or a contractor looking to maximise your earning potential. Upskilling staff or yourself can be a good way to expand your offering, helping to keep up to speed with market demand. Heating for the future When it comes to heating, despite sensationalist headlines which suggest ‘the end of gas’, at the moment, this fuel heats the majority of UK homes and commercial properties. If you are a trained gas engineer, you will have work for many years to come as the transition away from fossil fuels will be gradual. Even after gas boilers stop being installed
Logic4training’s Managed Learning Programme (MLP), designed for new entrants, provides all the skills, qualifications and experience needed to become Gas Safe Registered, allowing candidates to hit the ground running and gain the right background for career progression into renewables and/or commercial fields.
