aillant, the heating technology manufacturer, is refocusing on the renewable energy sector by putting its heat pump through one of the toughest challenges for a man who lives 235km north of the Arctic Circle – officially the coldest part of Sweden. Ake has lived alone in Naimakka,


Sweden, since 1981, when he took over the running of the local weather station from his parents. His nearest neighbour lives 3km away and until recently, he used to struggle with frozen pipes affecting his heating in an area where outside temperatures can drop to -40˚C. Vaillant intervened by fitting a


flexoTHERM heat pump, a renewable heating solution said to be perfect for environments where gas boilers aren’t a realistic option. In so doing, Ake’s home was transformed into a cosy dwelling despite its chilly surrounds. Klause Jesse, UK managing director
