From the editor The future’s
bright, the future’s green H
uge congratulations must be given to two inspirational women in our industry
– Jacinta Caden and Lisa-Jayne Cook, who have both made the
2019 Women in Engineering Society Top 50 Female Engineers List – this is a huge accomplishment and well-deserved for both women.
This, along with other initiatives, has the added benefit of further raising the profile of this industry and bringing it to mainstream attention. Anyone who is prepared to put in the hard work and dedication can achieve great things and become inspirational role models, and what this sector is really good at is enabling and mentoring new people.
We have an increasing number of people coming in to the industry who have more of a focus on climate action, sustainability and all things green. Saving the planet is a false goal – it’s going to keep on rolling around the sun and supporting new life long after we’re gone – but if humanity is to survive, then we need to learn to coexist with our planet, not exploit it until our own destruction. This is why we need to bring along new people with this ‘green’ ethos to support an d take to a new level the work that’s already bein g
done. 2020
