Diff usion
Diff usion has successfully completed its Embodied Carbon Calculations on its product portfolio, in accordance with the latest CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Engineers) ‘TM65 Embodied Carbon in Building Services: A Calculation Methodology (2021)’ digital tool requirements.
This milestone allows Diff usion to provide
Mid-Level report fi gures for all of its fan coil units, including its CIBSE award-winning New Highline 235 Modular Fan Coil Range. Diff usion is now working towards the completion of more comprehensive and independently verifi ed Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for all its fan coil units.
TM65 is an internationally applicable methodology for the calculation of embodied carbon in building services engineering. With the methodology embodied carbon is understood as the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the manufacture of a product, its installation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and end of life. It covers the whole life cycle, excluding operational aspects and the potential recovery, reuse, or recycling of materials. Diff usion is seeing an increase in the number of projects
requiring life cycle assessments to ensure the buildings are sustainable through all stages of design. This increases the demand for manufacturers to provide details of their products’ embodied carbon. There are several ways for a manufacturer to calculate the embodied carbon of its products. A Type II environmental declaration (self-certifi ed), can be achieved by using a manufacturer’s software or process, including CIBSE’s TM65 Embodied Carbon in Building Services: A Calculation Methodology (2021). Alternatively, manufacturers can achieve a Type III environmental declaration (quantifi ed and independently verifi ed environmental information over the life cycle of goods and services, which has a fi nancial cost), such as EPDs and PEPs. Diff usion is striving towards attaining Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to provide its customers total peace of mind that Diff usion’s embodied carbon data has been third-party verifi ed.
The embodied carbon associated with building services design can be signifi cant over a building’s lifetime, mainly due to the materials used, but also due to high replacement rates as buildings change their usage. For commercial property owners modular fan coil design is particularly important to buildings undergoing a change of use. www.diff

Panasonic
Panasonic has opened a new production line at its Pilsen factory, dedicated to its large- capacity Big Aquarea M Series air-to-water heat pumps.
This €2.6 million (66 million Czech crowns)
investment enhances Panasonic’s manufacturing capacity in Europe to meet the rising demand for heating solutions with natural refrigerant. Designed and produced entirely in Europe, the Big Aquarea is tailored for centralised heating in multi-family homes and light commercial buildings, supporting the transition to decarbonised heating systems. The new production line for large-capacity outdoor heat pump units is located in the expanding production complex in the Borská Pole industrial zone in Pilsen, Czech Republic where Panasonic has been producing heat pumps since 2018. However, large-capacity units have never been produced here until now as Hiroshi Komatsubara, Managing Director of the Pilsen plant of Panasonic Heating & Ventilation Air-Conditioning Czech explains: ‘We are proud to reaffi rm our commitment to heat pump production in Europe with three factories dedicated to providing reliable heating and cooling solutions for residential and commercial applications. This investment ensures we can meet the region’s growing demand for energy-effi cient systems.’ The Big Aquarea T-CAP M Series off ers a fl exible, compact, and
energy-effi cient solution. These heat pumps provide a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuel systems and can be integrated with existing water systems such as fan coils, fl oor heating, or domestic hot water tanks. The series includes units with outputs ranging from 20 to 30 kW, and up to 300 kW in cascade. Key features of the Big Aquarea T-CAP M Series include high
effi ciency with a COP of 4.91 at 7/35, low noise levels, fl exible control options, seamless Modbus integration, and Wi-Fi connectivity for Aquarea Smart Cloud and Aquarea Service Cloud. These features make the Big Aquarea an excellent choice for various applications, blending seamlessly with architecture and the environment. Panasonic’s new production line in Pilsen is equipped with advanced IoT technologies and AI, ensuring top-quality production and rapid return on investment.
