ENERGY SAVING

unit in a typical London coworking space. Most sites have many heating and cooling units, so the savings potential is huge. To illustrate, the emissions caused by suboptimal HVAC settings annually are equivalent to what could be captured by a forest the size of London.

Q. Can you share any success stories or case studies where Cosysense has been implemented effectively?

A. We are currently moving from the pilot stage to full commercial deployment. In our recent pilots,

we saved £2,600 and reduced 1,960 kg of CO2 emissions. This is equivalent to the CO2 captured by approximately 2,600 trees over the same period.

Q. How does being part of the Better Futures programme support Cosysense’s mission and goals?

A. Being part of the Better Futures programme has been instrumental for Cosysense in reaching key milestones. Through Sustainable Ventures, we received industrial design analysis and support. Additionally, the Imperial College Retrofit Accelerator provided two student interns, who later completed their master’s theses with us. This support has been critical in advancing our transition from prototype to commercial stage.

Q. What are the future plans for Cosysense, especially in terms of expanding its reach and impact?

A. Cosysense recently upgraded its technology and is now standardising processes to onboard new clients in London and Barcelona within the next three months. We plan to launch sales and initiate a new funding round in the coming year. Success for us means that we save 2.85 GWh of power and

reduce emissions by 1,920 tCO2e over the next three years.

Q. How does Cosysense contribute to tackling fuel poverty and climate change through its cleantech solutions? A. Cosysense has an impact from day one after

installation. We enhance energy efficiency (SDG target 7.3) and provide real-time greenhouse gas emissions reductions (SDG target 13.2). While our main impact is on energy and climate, we also address workplace inequality. Research highlights that females are disproportionally affected by discomfort (https://go.nature.com/3ZHp7g9, SDG target 5.1). Today, we can estimate the number of females/males in comfort from occupancy data. In the future, we aim to quantify gender-disaggregated comfort more precisely. This feature is in the design phase, as we prioritise avoiding privacy concerns while delivering equitable comfortable and healthy environments for everyone.

Brilliant. British.
