Industry News

Welcome to the October issue of Converter Magazine

Editor’s Comment This month, I have taken note of news on

packaging regulations, especially with regards to the packaging and labelling of hazardous chemicals. The CLP regulation revises the 2008 EU legislation, providing clearer guidelines for labelling chemical substances and adapting these rules to various trade formats, including online and bulk sales. It also encourages the circular use of chemical products, enhances the clarity and readability of labels and ensures stronger protection against chemical hazards. In this issue of Converter, we are taking a deep dive into several articles

surrounding the features of Drying, Curing and UV, Ink and Ink Dispensers, Reel and Roll Handling, Shrink Sleeve Solutions, Sustainable Converting and Labelling Solutions. As usual, if you would like to contribute to a future issue of Converter or you have any feedback that you would like to provide, do contact me at ynolan@datateam.co.uk.

Flint Group’s Evolution range helps Optimum Group excel in

shrink sleeve recycling Optimum Group has improved the recyclability of its shrink sleeves after adopting Flint Group’s Evolution range of primers and varnishes, which are designed to enhance packaging and label recycling. Flint Group’s Evolution Deinking Primer significantly contributed to Optimum Group’s success at the 2023 Empack Belgium event, where their Wellen site won the Sustainability Award. Thanks to Evolution, Optimum Group improved the recyclability of its shrink sleeve labels, allowing PET bottles and sleeves to be recycled together without contaminating the recyclate and increasing the amount of reclaimed material. Evolution Deinking Primer is applied to the substrate before the ink

to provide strong adhesion throughout the life of the label. It enables the ink to be released (de-inked) into the recycling caustic wash and the substrate to be broken down into flakes, allowing for more than 99 percent recyclability. The results of Optimum Group’s transition to the Evolution Deinking Primer are outlined in a new video testimonial available to view here.
