Industry News Editor’s Note
Welcome to the June issue of Converter magazine. Although I’m still new to this title, I have seen that there are many industry events held around the world and one such event is Labelexpo Europe, which returns this September – the last event was held before the Covid-19 pandemic back in 2019. This year’s show takes place between September 11-14 at Brussels
Expo. Along with demonstrations of the latest printing and converting equipment will be masterclasses and special events focused on automation and flexible packaging. Tickets to the show cost €95 (£81), with an early registration rate of €75
(£64) available until Friday, August 25. New equipment to be seen at Labelexpo Europe includes the world
premiere of the HP Indigo 200K press, the Xeikon CX500t Titon toner press and the Screen Truepress PAC520P water-based packaging press. In this issue of Converter, we’ve got features on Coating & Laminating, Drying, Curing & UV, Finishing Equipment, Flexo Technology and Sustainability.

Ecoveritas to share data collection expertise at FFP Sustainability Event
Ecoveritas, the leading sustainability data expert, will join organisations including WRAP, OPRL, the Co-Op, and Constantia Flexibles at this summer’s FFP Sustainability Event, which is being held on June 27 in Northampton. The free event, billed as an enlightening and progressive look at the entire lifecycle of sustainable packaging, brings together packaging professionals from across Europe to hear insights from some of the industry’s foremost experts. The first FFP Sustainability Event to be held in person since before the pandemic, it takes place against a backdrop of a swathe of new packaging legislation and a deepening climate crisis. Kathy Illingworth, head of sustainability & consulting at Ecoveritas, said:
“This event could not have come at a more opportune time for the business community. Between the somewhat chaotic implementation of new measures like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reform and the delayed Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in Scotland, and the creeping threat of climate catastrophe, the importance of having a clear packaging strategy has never been greater. “Uncertainty is the word of the moment; uncertainty around future
regulations, what it all means for businesses, and the future of our planet itself. We’ll be bringing data and insights gathered from working with some of the world’s largest brands, retailers, and supply chains to provide attendees with the knowledge and tools they need to chart a course through this uncertain landscape.” The event, held at the Hilton Hotel in the Collingtree area of Northampton, will discuss a diverse range of topics including EPR legislation, recycled polymers and other material choices, waste streams, brand objectives and challenges, and Ecoveritas’ speciality – data collection. Ms Illingworth added: “We can’t ever know exactly what the future holds,
but we can prepare for it. The FFP Sustainability Event will prepare attendees for almost anything as we strive to achieve a circular economy together.”
