Labelling Solutions

Are you maximising your efficiency with liner-free labels?

By Dayle Guy, business solutions business development manager at Epson UK.

he pandemic has had a lasting impact on the take-away, click-and-collect and food delivery hospitality markets. The latest edition of the CGA and Slerp Hospitality at Home Tracker shows that delivery and takeaways sales in March 2022 were 119% higher than in 2019 for managed restaurants and pub groups. However, unsurprisingly they were 24% lower than the 12 months previous when Britain was under strict Covid-19 restrictions. The three year sales growth for deliveries was 382% while for the take away and click and collect sector it was 20%.

T

Karl Chessell, CGA’s director – hospitality operators and food, EMEA, said that while the year-on-year dip in deliveries and takeaways was inevitable, the at-home market still represents around a quarter of managed groups’ sales, and it is very clear that the convenience of deliveries will continue to appeal.

The switch to home deliveries is predicted

to have a lasting impact with 91% of UK restaurants expecting to earn revenue from takeaways in 2022, and one-in-five expecting the majority of their sales will come from delivery and takeaways.

The rise in takeaways has resulted in an increase in online ordering over the past 12 months with 50% of restaurant owners implementing online delivery technology. To cater for these different market opportunities restaurants, pubs and cafés have had to change their business delivery approach. They have had to consider an efficient and cost effective way to manage and complete orders quickly and accurately. A core element of a seamless process is the production of an order receipt. The quick and simple creation of liner- free labels allows these markets to operate more efficiently. They eliminate the need to manually peel and write on labels which speeds up the process and ensures greater accuracy. They cut plastic waste from labels as

the media requires no back-peeling. This saves time too.

Using a label printer also reduces errors associated with handwritten labels and means information such as customer name, delivery address and food contents are all clearly displayed.

Epson is addressing this demand with the new TM-L100. The highly compact, liner-free label printer offers full and easy ePOS iOS, Android & Java integration with users’ existing POS systems. It can quickly and conveniently synchronise devices to existing workflow systems via Bluetooth connectivity with rapid sync and charge functionality. Devices, such as tablets, can then enjoy more efficient operation with increased productivity, fewer errors and faster turnaround times when producing labels.

Epson’s mPOS systems have been enabling Vito Mojo, a provider of end-to-end tech solutions for restaurants, pubs and coffee shops, to support clients such as Nando’s, Yo! and Brewhouse and Kitchen.

Stefan Catoiu, co-founder of Vito Mojo, explains: “Because liner paper is not a great option for kitchens our clients or operators are very interested in having some sort of sticky paper role in their printers. What is really good about this printer is that is can tolerate a couple of different paper rolls so we have a variety of different use cases from kitchens that want an want an easy stick on and stick off roll, to those who actually use the paper roll to seal a box, or seal a wrap. A second, really great benefit is for anyone who wants to integrate it into a stack. Essentially if you have TM m30, or you created a software to work with the TM m30, this utilises the same system so there’s not really a lot of extra work.” Liner-free labels can enable a greater degree of flexibility in a wide range of environments. Accurate information can be produced on demand, clearly, legibly, and very quickly to help streamline and support faster order completion.
