Key labelling trends for 2025 - are you prepared?

they are also consuming consciously and mindfully. Increasingly, retailers and brands are being held to account with authenticity having a signifi cant impact on share of wallet, revenue and loyalty. As a result, businesses need to adopt strategies that emphasise transparency and trust. One eff ective approach is leveraging technology to ensure that every step of a product’s journey is visible and verifi able. This is where cloud labelling plays a crucial role. Being able to trace products both upstream and downstream using cloud-based solutions will become important for managing the product lifecycle and ensuring sustainable sourcing. These intelligent supply chains can track, trace and authenticate products at every stage of the journey, from raw materials to consumer goods.

SUSTAINABILITY PRESSURES RESHAPE BUSINESS FOCUS

S

upply chain disruptions have become the norm rather than the exception in recent years. From geopolitical tensions to climate-related events, businesses of all sizes are under increasing pressure to build more resilient, transparent and effi cient supply chain ecosystems. Yet, one often-overlooked factor can make or break a company’s supply chain strategy; labelling. Standardised cloud-fi rst labelling solutions are no longer just a compliance necessity but are a critical enabler of supply chain agility. By adopting powerful and innovative labelling technologies, businesses across a variety of industries can improve traceability, enhance operational effi ciency and ensure regulatory compliance across international markets, all of which are vital to thrive in today’s complex and competitive marketplace.

So, what does 2025 hold for labelling and supply chains? We see three key areas shaping the landscape over the next 12 months: cloud- enabled collaboration, product authenticity and sustainability pressures.

THE NEED FOR COLLABORATIVE SUPPLY CHAINS

The combination of complex supply chains and increasing demands from consumers and regulators alike has led to a greater need for connection and collaboration. As companies search for a better way

to do business, they are looking for a more fl exible and agile framework that allows them to streamline access to trading partners, including partners, suppliers, customers and their own global facilities across their enterprise.

This type of collaborative network supports authenticity, compliance and traceability in the supply chain. It allows trading partners to exchange product identifi cation standards, labels, data and rules, providing signifi cant gains and allowing stakeholders to securely share data, coordinate activities and track product movements in real-time. Ultimately, creating a new level of collaboration, accessed via the Cloud, is vital to improving effi ciency and compliance while signifi cantly reducing overall costs and avoiding fi nes. In fact, our research revealed that 84 percent of companies believe it would be benefi cial to join a cloud-enabled ecosystem where supply chain partners share access, data and standards to optimise performance.

CONSUMERS DRIVE RENEWED FOCUS ON PRODUCT AUTHENTICITY

Authenticity is the new currency for conversion, spending and loyalty. Consumers are acting with caution due to the rising cost of-living, but invariably

The increasing importance of sustainability is reshaping the regulatory and operational landscape for businesses across all industries. Companies are also recognising the cost-saving potential of sustainable practices, with cloud labelling solutions playing a key role. These technologies not only improve supply chain visibility, but also reduce waste from traditional labelling processes, lower inventory levels and cut transportation costs, thereby driving signifi cant savings. One key sustainability regulation reshaping business operations is the EU Digital Product Passport (DPP), but according to our research, only 18 percent of global manufacturers currently use DPPs, even though 63 percent anticipate wider adoption within three years. So, where should companies start to ensure they are in compliance?

An increasing number of forward-thinking companies are adopting cloud labelling strategies. Digital labels hold all the important details about a product’s materials, sustainability and lifecycle in real-time, making them an essential component in companies’ DPP initiatives.

LOOKING AHEAD

The future of supply chain management lies in agility, innovation and collaboration. As businesses navigate complexities such as geopolitical uncertainty, evolving regulations and the persistent threats of counterfeiting, those that embrace cloud-driven labelling solutions will be best positioned to thrive.
