Securing the web

DG press successfully delivered and installed a new high tech web offset press to the Portuguese security printing company INCM

offset press to the Portuguese security printing specialist, Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda (INCM) in Lisbon. INCM is the oldest manufacturing establishment in Portugal and has a long history (more than 700 years) in the manufacturing of the Portuguese currency. The company also prints a large range of security products; e.g. identification documents, bank cards, values, (tax stamps) diplomas and certificates. This new Vision web offset press enables INCM to increase their production capacity and improve its

t the end of November last year, DG press successfully delivered and installed a brand new Vision web

service significantly, whilst offering new levels of productivity and efficiency. Luis Machado, managing director at INCM,

talking about the new Vision web offset press says: “The security printing activity is of great importance to ensure the existence of trust in all relationships between State, citizens and organisations, which require authentic and reliable documents. INCM guides all its activity for the maximum quality and safety of its equipment, production processes and products.” Remko Koolbergen, director of DG press, comments on the important investment choice taken by INCM under the International Public procurement procedure, “DG press' mission is to build web offset

printing machines which fulfil the customer’s production needs and to provide the necessary support services needed to maintain these high performance printing machines. The Vision can produce an extremely wide variety of security and government-oriented documents. The advantages of the new Vision web press

for INCM are the superior print quality, the wide range of in-line processing options and the short make-ready and change-over times that the press provides. These are important considerations when you need to meet the ever-changing and growing demands of the Portuguese marketplace.”

Infrastructure investment aids labelling precision L

uminer, a labeling solutions provider specialising in extended content labels (ECLs)

for pharmaceutical ethical and OTC packaging, clinical trials and various other narrow web applications for the cosmetics, F&B and chemicals sectors, has incorporated a new state-of-the-art ECL production line at its primary manufacturing facility in Lakewood, NJ. Highlighted by a custom engineered modular printing, converting, onserting servo platform, the new infrastructure further increases Luminer’s already substantial capacity, and yields additional benefits like faster throughput speeds and heightened booklet placement precision. The seven-figure investment allows

Luminer to accommodate its growing extended content label business, providing a doubling of Luminer’s ECL manufacturing capacity. The new line’s exemplary production speeds foster both efficiency and cost-effectiveness, ROIs that Luminer

will be able to pass on to customers. Just as importantly for a complicated niche like extended content label production – where production pitfalls span from logistical challenges to inspection issues to regulatory challenges – the equipment also helps Luminer expand its overall ECL capabilities portfolio. For example, the equipment’s modernised onserting and movable print and die stations help broaden production

flexibility, an important factor for executing the sort of complicated, even customised arrangements often utilised in clinical trials and other pharmaceutical product settings. The new line’s press can align preprinted cover webs in register with booklets and base webs, addressing another sector-specific need. “As the amount of information that must accompany pharmaceutical products continues to deepen – with new regulations, traceability mandates and multi-language printing becoming the norm – it’s

important that pharma companies turn to true experts in extended content label manufacturing,” said Tom Spina, President & CEO of Luminer. “Our new ultra-modern ECL production line demonstrates our commitment to perpetually growing both our capacity and skill set in ECL production, which brings its own unique set of circumstances and challenges.”
