The EVA has published its latest Vending & Office Coffee Service (OCS) Market Report, covering data up to the end of 2024. On a European level machine fieldbase

and vends have shown very little growth compared to the previous year, with only revenue continuing to grow. Worth also noting is a clear change in the overall breakdown of machines placed in the workplace, dropping to 70% from 80% pre- pandemic. This demonstrates concretely that machine operators are diversifying their sites, in order to compensate for partial

Italian market appears to be declining, with drops reported in machine fieldbase, consumption as well as in overall revenue. Indeed in the later criteria, Italy is the only market among the 24 covered in the report that saw a drop in product revenue (-2.9%). This is despite the general trend to compensate consumption reductions by price increases. Italy however, by far remains the market with the largest number of machines (809,000). France overtakes Germany as the biggest market in terms of total product revenue with €3.69 billion. With regards to consumption, the Netherlands as a primarily OCS market remains at the top, totalling by itself 5.66 billion vends. The report covers the market position up

to the end of 2024, but with the economic headwinds seen already since the start of

AVA urges industry to make its voice heard on energy drinks ban proposal

2025, the new figures may point to the beginning of a more general slowing down of the vending market, with concerns that it could unfortunately morph into a more general stagnation of the industry in the coming years. The annual report is as freely available for

Some selected findings • The total number of machines across Europe remains at 5 million

• Number of vends stands at 5 billion • Total industry revenue is €26.4 billion • Micro-markets and smart fridges continue to grow rapidly with a respective 15% and 95% increase since the last report

• Across Europe cashless payment systems are now fitted to 85% of the pay vend fieldbase

The Vending & Automatic Retail Association (AVA) is calling on its members to contact their MPs to make their voices heard about the damaging impact a ban on the sale of energy drinks from vending machines will have on the industry.. The government is proposing to ban sales of energy drinks from all vending machines regardless of the age of the person buying them. This is part of the its commitment to ban the sale of energy drinks to under 16s.

The AVA said: “We have been engaging with the Department of Health and Social Care for months on this matter where we have repeatedly explained that over 80% of vending machines are in closed environments, i.e. areas where under 16s are unable to access. “As referenced in the consultation, the government has expressed a clear preference to implement a blanket ban through vending machines for ease of enforcement, ignoring the significant impact this would have on our industry.

The consultation will close on 26 November 2025 and the AVA is urging members to contribute to the consultation. Chief executive David Llewellyn told

attendees at a recent AVA webinar: “You have to make an impression, or the industry will lose £32 million a year.” The AVA has drafted a letter/email highlighting the impact this policy would have on the industry which members can send to their local MPs.
