Attached caps for on-the-go bottles to improve recycling

Coca Cola Great Britain (CCGB) is extending the roll out of its attached caps to 500ml bottles, as part of a packaging development across its entire portfolio which will help improve recycling rates and prevent waste. The new design enables the cap to stay connected to the bottle after opening, making it easier to recycle the entire package and ensure no cap gets left behind, even when on the go. The attached caps design has been rolled

out nationwide on 500ml bottles of Coca Cola Original Taste, Coca Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke and Fanta Zero, before being rolled out steadily across all Coca Cola brands and pack sizes by early 2024. The attached caps were previously introduced on larger, 1.5L bottles of Fanta, Coca Cola Zero Sugar, and Diet Coke in May. All of Coca Cola’s bottles, including the caps,

have been 100% recyclable for many years but not all are being recycled due to bottle caps often being discarded and littered. The packaging development is just one of the actions Coca Cola is taking towards its commitment to a World Without Waste, which will also see the company help collect and recycle a bottle or can for everyone that it sells by 2025. Jon Woods, general manager at Coca Cola Great

Britain, said: “This small but significant change helps to ensure that when consumers recycle our bottles, the caps stay attached and don’t get left behind as litter. “We know consumers in Great Britain want to dispose of packaging in the right way, and we want to help them do that. We’re pleased to share this change, and we will continue to innovate and create more sustainable ways to enjoy our products.”

New printing service launched for disposables

Disposables manufacturer and supplier, Herald has launched a printing service led by printing expert and catering disposables consultant, Leyla Koroglu. Herald has appointed a bespoke packaging manager to oversee and deliver its new printing service, which means customers can now order a wide range of customised products to support their marketing efforts. By offering a quick turnaround on printed food

boxes and paper bags, alongside bespoke paper cups, Herald has already ensured a healthy flow of orders and is now promoting this dedicated service to new and existing customers as a sure- fire way to generate new business. Leyla Koroglu is experienced in assisting brand owners, wholesalers, packaging suppliers and retailers in taking products from concept to delivery and is taking a consultative approach to her new role. She commented: “I’m not just an order taker. I will always discuss with the customer what the intended purpose of the product is and what food or drink it’s expected to hold and will advise accordingly. “Sometimes customers place orders not

realising that the product won’t be suited to the content and that there will be alternative choices to deliver better print outcomes. In these instances, I’m on hand to help.”

Herald’s national sales manager, David Martin

sees Leyla’s appointment as the next step to securing the company’s offering, making sure all bases are covered and that Herald stands as the ultimate foodservice packaging one-stop shop: “We have spent the last few years cultivating our product range, expanding our eco-friendly offering and making sure that we have available stock to suit our customers’ needs. “We didn’t want our printing service to be an add on, which is why having Leyla at the helm is so important. She has the knowledge and experience to offer expert guidance and is adept at putting customers at ease and quickly identifying what it is that they need.”
