Whirlpool UK Appliances Ltd extends support to Sue Ryder

P

eterborough based Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited, parent company

to KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Hotpoint and Indesit, has extended its support to a charity that provides specialist palliative care and support to people with neurological conditions. As well as supporting Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice by raising vital funds through its Summer Series, Whirlpool UK has donated a large number of appliances to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham and to four of Sue Ryder’s Neurological Care Centres. Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited has

supported Thorpe Hall Hospice for many years and employees at the Peterborough HQ were due to participate in the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival 2020, which was due to take place in June. The 2020 event was unfortunately cancelled due to coronavirus; however Whirlpool still donated its sponsorship fees to Thorpe Hall Hospice, providing much needed financial assistance during the coronavirus pandemic. Since its establishment over 65 years ago, Sue

Ryder’s committed team of doctors, nurses and carers have provided palliative and neurological care living with life-limiting conditions. The charity further supports the family members of patients, as well as those experiencing the loss of a loved one. Ian Moverley, Public Affairs Director, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited says: “We are delighted to continue supporting Sue Ryder, a charity that works tirelessly to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.” Tori Ablard, Head of Hospice Fundraising,

Thorpe Hall Hospice says: “Now more than ever we need the support of our local community, and we are so grateful to Whirlpool UK employees for supporting Thorpe Hall Hospice. This support will help us to continue to be there for our patients when it matters most.”

Electrical Safety First announces date of twelfth annual conference

E

lectrical charity Electrical Safety First has announced that its twelfth annual

product safety conference – A Sustainable Future will run over two consecutive mornings, from Wednesday 4th November (9.30am-11.30am), to Thursday 5th November (9.30 am – 12.30pm). The event will be online and free to attend. This high profile event - which is supported

by the Office for Product Safety and Standards - attracts representatives from throughout the supply chain, in addition to major stakeholders and related organisations. Delegates range from government departments, manufacturers, retailers and importers, to lawyers, test houses and fire and rescue services - as well as Trading Standards and safety professionals. This integrated approach to product safety plays a significant part in the event’s success. That, and the fact it provides a platform for highlighting current critical and emerging issues. Wednesday’s agenda will focus on sustainability in relation to a number of themes, from product end-of-life and the circular economy, to the legislative landscape and the impact of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.

Thursday’s sessions will look at the benefits and risks arising from creative products and emerging technologies. Discussions will consider issues such as the standards ‘gap’ and how industry and regulators are addressing potential threats from IOT technologies. The event will also play host to Electrical Safety

First’s Safety Innovation Awards, developed by the Charity to acknowledge companies – or individuals – who put safety at the heart of product design, or go the extra mile in safety advocacy. To find out what the future holds for the

industry and to book your place at A Sustainable Future, visit: https://www.electricalsafetyfirst. org.uk/professional-resources/events/ electrical-product-safety-conference- online-2020/ Electrical Safety would like to thank the OPSS

for its support and the conference sponsors: Intertek, Schneider Electric , UL and Whirlpool Corporation.

Quiet Mark now accredits eight Meaco products

T

he MeacoDry ‘ABC’ 20L Dehumidifier becomes the eighth Meaco product to have achieved the Quiet Mark accreditation. Meaco

products are renowned for low noise levels. The company prioritises manufacturing products that are low in noise and low on energy consumption. The ‘ABC’ 20L joins the smaller ‘ABC’ 10L and 12L models, the 12L Low

Energy dehumidifier, and the company’s family of cooling fans as Quiet Mark accredited products. After extensive testing, the 20L was found to be one of the quietest products in its category. Quiet Mark is the international approval award programme associated with the UK Noise Abatement Society, and Meaco is the only manufacturer to have achieved this award for its dehumidifiers. With more people currently working from home, products that are “whisper” quiet can make for a

better work/home lifestyle, helping to reduce stress, and noise levels are becoming an important feature when making a buying decision. Quiet Mark awarded products have each been tested and approved as one of the lowest noise performance products in their category. Recent consumer research by Quiet Mark confirmed that 76% of UK customers want quieter home appliances. With news of the latest certification achievement Poppy Szkiler, Founder and CEO of Quiet Mark,

said, “We are delighted these Meaco dehumidifiers have achieved Quiet Mark certification, providing acoustic performance which does not intrude, whilst delivering the core function of reducing humidity in summer and condensation in winter.” Chris Michael, Meaco MD comments “We’re proud to receive the Quiet Mark accreditation for the

latest Meaco product to undergo testing. We continually strive to produce quieter and more energy efficient machines and are determined to give our customers the best products available.”
