SIRIUS u Celebrating 25 Years
Adapting to a Changing Industry
T
he retail landscape has transformed signifi cantly over the past 25 years
and Sirius has always strived to evolve with it. In more recent years, independent retailers have also faced some of the most challenging trading conditions in modern retail history. From Brexit-related uncertainty and global supply chain disruption to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising operational costs, the sector has had to demonstrate signifi cant resilience and adaptability.
Throughout these periods of uncertainty, collaboration across the Sirius network became increasingly important. Regular communication between Members, Suppliers and the Sirius team helped businesses respond quickly to changing circumstances, share insight and identify opportunities within a rapidly shifting marketplace. Steve Jones adds: “The challenges facing independent retailers today are signifi cant, from the continued growth of omni-channel retail and changing consumer behaviours to ongoing margin pressures, legislative changes and increasing overheads. It’s something we’re very aware of and it’s why we stay focused on delivering practical, relevant solutions that genuinely support our Members’ businesses. That can take many forms, whether it’s
creating additional margin opportunities, improving cost effi ciencies or giving our Members access to products and services they receive a greater benefi t from in a group setting. Just as importantly, it’s about providing the tools, insights and ongoing support needed to help them navigate what is an increasingly complex market. Stock availability, pricing pressures and wider operational challenges remain key considerations, but through collaboration and shared expertise, we aim to allow our Members to adapt with confi dence. Everything we do comes back to our clear
objective - enabling independent retailers to compete more eff ectively, while still retaining full control of their own businesses and what makes them unique.” Despite the challenges facing the wider
retail sector, Sirius remains extremely confi dent in the long-term strength of independent retail. Consumers continue to value expertise,

personal service, trust and accountability - qualities that independent retailers consistently deliver within their local communities. Independent retailers remain an essential
part of the high street and local economy, off ering a level of customer care, product knowledge and long-term relationship building that cannot easily be replicated. Sirius fi rmly believes that while retail continues to evolve, there will always be a place for independent businesses that are able to combine strong service, local reputation and specialist expertise with competitive off erings and modern retail practices. By continuing to invest in support, collaboration and commercial opportunities, Sirius remains committed to helping its Members strengthen their businesses, remain visible within the marketplace and continue thriving within an increasingly competitive retail environment.
Looking Ahead with Confi dence As Sirius Buying Group celebrates its 25th anniversary, it does so with a strong sense of achievement and pride, but also with a clear focus on the future. The Group’s vision remains unchanged - to help independents thrive by building a community of like-minded retailers and enhancing their competitive position in the marketplace. But how that vision is delivered will continue to evolve. Future priorities include growing and
strengthening the membership, deepening Supplier partnerships and investing in new tools, insights and initiatives that drive performance across the Group. There is also a continued emphasis on creating opportunities for collaboration, whether through events, shared
data or new platforms that bring Members and Suppliers closer together. As the industry continues
to evolve, Sirius remains committed to helping independent retailers embrace new opportunities while retaining the
individuality, fl exibility and local expertise that continue to set them apart within the marketplace. There is also a continued focus on supporting the next generation of independent retailers, ensuring Sirius continues to evolve alongside changing retail models, consumer behaviours and technological advancements. At the same time, the Group remains committed to preserving the values that have always underpinned its success - trust, collaboration, independence and long-term relationship building. Steve Jones concludes: “Independent retail has shown incredible resilience way beyond the past 25 years and each member of the Sirius team is proud of the role we get to play in supporting our channel - I fi rmly believe there is a strong future ahead. Our role is to continue evolving, continue listening to our Members and Suppliers, and continue creating opportunities that allow independent businesses to thrive for many years to come.” At a time when the value of independence is
more important than ever, Sirius is committed to ensuring that its Members are not just surviving but thriving. Ultimately, the success of the Group is built on a simple belief - by strengthening independent retailers, the entire network becomes stronger. That creates more valuable partnerships for Suppliers, greater opportunities for Members and a more resilient independent retail sector for the future.
