garden tools Getting the job done

GCUexamines the latest garden tool releases for 2020, with a return to heritage products taking a key eye for consumers…

ools help to generate vital revenue under cover in winter, and it’s a sector that’s ripe with innovation. Fallen Fruits has embraced the trend for house plants by developing an extensive range of specialist tools and sundries. Jackie Eades, commercial director at Fallen Fruits, says: “Quality tools meet specific needs such as the Terrarium selection which includes an extendable mini trowel, grabber and rake. With stylish plant markers and the fashionable Denim collection of co-ordinating accessories such as aprons, gloves and tool bags, Fallen Fruits has beautifully designed functional products that give retailers a point of difference.” Burgon & Ball has announced expansions to

T

its range too. Rainer Schubert, managing drector at Burgon & Ball, explains: “The new ‘National Trust made by Burgon & Ball’ collection results from our major new collaboration with Europe’s largest conservation charity. This high-carbon range of garden tools uses traditional manufacturing techniques and offers a distinctive heritage feel.” The design-led Sophie Conran collection features the addition of large tool and large cutting categories to create a comprehensive range.

Also available via Burgon & Ball is Corona

cutting tools, hand tools and long-handled tools. The Corona ranges specially selected for the UK market include high quality cutting tools, saws, axes, digging tools and long-handled tools. These ranges offer a wide choice of designs, incorporating advanced technical features to create a tool for every task - and for every gardener. Ranges include the Max Forged range of professional-grade tools built for strength and durability, and the ComfortGEL family of feature- rich tools for the keen domestic gardener; tools such as the patented FlexDIAL branch and stem pruner with adjustable dial for a custom fit. Finally, iTip Handles is promoting its award winning product as the spring gardening season gets underway. Andy Hill, marketing executive at iTip Handles, says: “iTip Handles are the safest and easiest way to move and tip a loaded wheelbarrow. They reduce the chance of backache, wrist and jarring injuries, while giving the ability to complete tasks more comfortably and quickly.”

Ready for the Wolf Wolf-Garten is continuing its push of two brand new spade designs for 2019 that have been specifically designed to deal with extreme loads and difficult tasks.

The new Straight Spade and Pointed Spade are made from durable and long-lasting materials to provide years of hard work in the garden. Both feature a sharp baron steel blade, which has been induction-hardened for extra strength to easily penetrate tough surfaces, whilst stiffening ribs ensure the spades do not bend after prolonged use. Long robust handles reduce strain on the

back; each has a reinforced steel shaft with a non-slip sleeve for secure grip and comfort. The ergonomically designed D-grip handle provides safety and comfort, whilst the tread edge enables the user to add more pressure whilst digging, making groundwork fast and effective. The Straight Spade can be used for digging lighter soils, whilst the Pointed Spade is better suited for breaking up and digging harder, stony soil with ease.

New heights in pruning At GLEE, Spear & Jackson’s cutting tools had a number of interesting new product launches. With the ability to reach heights of up to 11 feet, The Razorsharp Telescopic Super Long Reach Cutter, is designed to give extra reach for high level tree pruning. With carbon steel blades for lasting sharpness and a steel cord for extra strength and durability the cutter has an adjustable angled head with eight position settings so you can effectively cut even hard to reach branches. In addition to this, the Razorsharp Lightweight Telescopic Tree Pruner has a fibreglass handle that is up to 30 per cent lighter than its metal-handled equivalents designed to make the job of tree pruning easier. And the essential tool for all would-be gardeners and DIY experts is the trusty pocket knife. There are exciting developments here, with Leatherman announcing the launch of the K-Series. The K-Series features first-of-its-kind magnetic technology, which is fully integrated into the design, making it easier to open, handle and close each tool.
