BT LGL The future is bright!

UK construction continues to march on with unprecedented levels of activity post-pandemic. Demand for products and materials is at an all-time peak, with manufacturers facing challenges in meeting demand. Here, Steve Davis of Univolt discusses what’s next for the firm and what impact a booming building industry, Brexit and Covid has had on the business. Interestingly, in a changing and fluctuating

hilst much of the construction industry continues to operate throughout Covid, I’m not sure

any of us expect the surge in projects and building that we continue to see across the UK. Contractors and specifiers are looking to use

premium products that are easy to install and are delivered with efficiency. Both Brexit and Covid have presented us with challenges never experienced in my lifetime, largely associated with haulage and travel bureaucracy. We continue to demonstrate agility and are exploring different ways in which we receive our products safely into the UK.

market, we are seeing demand for different products to those favoured in the past. A safety conscious and very aware customer base continues to specify our SLXL product as their PVC-LSF 3 compartment dado trunking solution. This is unique as it offers a higher ignition point of up to 15% than standard PVC, the halogens contained within the products are released at a slower rate, therefore, smoke release is also reduced by up to 65% in the first 4 minutes of a fire (when compared to standard PVC dado trunkings). It’s also incredibly future-proof working with Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat8 and OM3 Fibre Optic

cables whilst offering far reaching safety benefits through its slow burning fire- resistant properties. We are already seeing Cat8 being installed within data centres, delivering 2000MHz bandwidth, representing three times more than Cat 6A. Whilst we don’t envisage this having any major impact on the commercial market for the next 12 months, this product essentially future proofs any cable containment system. We also launched a bench trunking product which is a strong specification for desktop cable containment. Finished in a white PVC , this is a great choice for any office, school, healthcare or laboratory environment.
