Bureau Veritas partners IET T
esting, inspection and certifi cation company Bureau Veritas has partnered with The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to fund training and development for electrical engineers. This partnership will see Bureau Veritas develop its current workforce as well as supporting those looking to join the industry, ensuring electrical engineers are equipped with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of a rapidly- changing sector.
The electrical industry is fast growing and will play a signifi cant role in helping the UK reach
its Net Zero targets. However, the industry is currently facing a skills shortage and requires considerably more highly qualifi ed engineers to meet the demands of new green technologies, such as the installation of heat pumps and EV charging points.
The IET partnership will enable engineers at Bureau Veritas to connect with others around the world, participate in seminars and webinars, and learn the skills they need to achieve
LEW acquires Impact Electrical Distributors

eading independent electrical wholesaler LEW Electrical Distributors has acquired Impact Electrical Distributors in Nottingham.
This is part of the business’s continued expansion plans and is the seventeenth branch in the LEW network.
Impact is a long-established business with over 20 years trading history. The location complements the existing LEW network of branches, giving customers a stronger service off ering along with an improved customer experience when working outside their local area. CA, the UK’s leading engineering services trade association, has announced business leader and electrical engineer Sean Smyth as its new president.
Long-standing ECA advocate Stuart Smith was named senior vice president, and Ruth Devine as vice president.
Sean recently celebrated 50 years in the electrical industry, having begun his career as a JIB apprentice in 1973 and progressing to become CEO of WT Parker Group. During Sean’s tenure as CEO, he grew the business from £27m to £80m turnover, developing a diverse business in niche markets and forming key client partnerships. Sean became an active member of the ECA in 1995, and takes over the ECA Presidency from Steve Murray who played a critical role in guiding ECA as it supported its
members through diffi cult times, including economic uncertainty around the pandemic, materials and labour shortages, and price volatility. Sean commented: “Our industry faces signifi cant challenges, but I am determined to support ECA’s members and the wider industry to maximise every opportunity in the next 12 months. I want to use my time to enable every member to grow their business, prosper in this uncertain business climate, and be aware of all new initiatives through clear communication and ongoing support.”
