T-Level students benefit from NET Future Faradays event
found out more about the electrical industry, apprenticeships and employability at a recent interactive ‘Future Faradays’ event. The Future Faradays
L
programme is an initiative from electrical industry charity National Electrotechnical Training (NET) that aims to inspire and inform full time electrical students about the industry, the proper way to become fully qualified and the opportunities available to them. During the event, around 50 students heard informative talks from Stuart Wiles and Lucy Willett, final year electrical apprentices at Leicester City Council, qualified electrician Stephanie Ward from PA Housing Association, project engineer Miah McCullagh from Elmleigh Electrical Services and Neil McManus, Leicester College’s Construction T-Level programme manager. The students’ own presentation skills were also put to the test after they
were set a challenging task to improve classroom lighting efficiency. Commenting on the benefits of the event, Neil McManus said: “The event
provided a great opportunity for the learners to speak with employers and apprentices and hear first-hand what life is like as an apprentice and what skills employers look for in an employee. The team task was also brilliant for allowing the learners to showcase their talents and presentation skills.”
T
he risks associated with unscrupulous training providers are being highlighted in a creative campaign from The
Electrotechnical Skills Partnership (TESP). Aimed at people outside of the industry looking to become a qualified
electrician, TESP hopes to help people avoid training providers who don’t deliver on their promises, presenting a range of courses which look impressive to the untrained eye, but on proper inspection don’t lead to qualified status. With thousands of searches each year on terms such as ‘electrical courses’
and ‘how to become an electrician’, many people are at risk of taking the wrong training path if they’re not aware of the correct routes to follow. TESP has produced online advice at
www.roguetrainers.co.uk with
top tips for choosing a training provider, along with red flags to look out for when researching a provider’s claims. Visitors are directed to TESP’s industry approved Training Routes to read more on the right paths to becoming qualified.
