Uncertainty ahead W

elcome to the January issue of Electrical Wholesaler.

We are entering 2022 on yet another uncertain

note. As the January issue of EW goes to press (in fact well in advance of January the month, such is the world of publishing deadlines) the country is - once again - waiting to hear how the new Omicron variant will affect both businesses and festive plans. Last year, shipping delays and supply chain disruption were among the top factors impacting the manufacturing sector, and this has an inevitable knock-on effect for the wholesaler. A recent report by card payments specialist

takepayments found that almost three-quarters of small businesses within the manufacturing sector experienced supply chain issues in 2021, and more than half say they have been negatively financially impacted. However, the general consensus seems to be

that the tide has turned and the worst is behind us. Wholesalers have contended with price

increases, freight issues and stock shortages in order to continue to supply customers this past year. This industry is resilient and determined, and will weather the challenges ahead just as it has all those past. In this issue you can read about the EDA’s

recent Digitalisation Forum in London (24), net zero and the electrification of heat (contributed by BEAMA, page 18) and ESP’s comprehensive smart security range (10). Plus, as always, our regular news, views,

product and installation features from market- leading businesses across the sector. Enjoy the issue, and here’s to a happy - and hopeful - new year.

Happy reading!
