Lynsey Gray ESP national sales manager 10 minutes with… Lynsey Gray, ESP
Tea or coffee? Tea.
What is your current role and how long have you been doing it? I am currently the national sales manager for ESP and have been in this role for 18 months.
What does your role entail? In my current role, I have overall responsibility for developing and implementing effective sales strategies for the company. I lead the nationwide team of ten sales managers to help them achieve sales targets across the product categories that currently sit under the ESP umbrella – CCTV, Access Control, Fire Protection, Emergency Lighting, the newly launched Fort Smart Security range and the Sangamo range of Heating Controls and Time Switches.
How did you get started in this industry? I started out in the electrical industry straight from school, working in the purchasing department of an electrical contractor, before moving to an electrical wholesaler and ultimately joining Scolmore in 2009.
What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? I have been working within the Scolmore Group for the last 12 years. Having first joined Scolmore

as area sales manager in 2010, I then moved to ESP in 2016 to take up the position of national key account manager, before being promoted to regional sales manager for the Northern region in 2017.
What do you hope to achieve in your role? A key focus for me will be maintaining strong relationships with customers and driving account development, as well as generating new business opportunities across all parts of the business.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? I am very proud of the role I have played with ESP in the last 12 months in particular, where we have seen the company hit record sales. 2021 was a very productive year on the new product development front, with the launch of the brand new Fort Smart Security range, a revamp of the Sangamo timers and heating controls and the relaunch of the Rekor HD 2MP CCTV range.
What do you see as the main issues for the industry at the moment? The ongoing pandemic continues to bring challenges to the industry. Supply chain challenges, staffing issues and shortages of materials have all put a strain on companies trying to meet their customers’ needs. We are fortunate to have excellent resources and very experienced teams in place to manage stocks
and supply chain to ensure we can continue to deliver the full range of ESP products to our customers.
Who has influenced you the most professionally? I have a lot of admiration for strong women in this industry and I haven’t had to look very far to get inspiration. Here at Scolmore I have been fortunate to work with some very influential female role models, who have guided and supported me throughout my career. Audra Fellows, the current national sales manager for the South West region, took me under her wing when I first joined the company and was very patient with me as I got to grips with my new role. I also have a lot of respect and admiration for Marie Parry, who has been with the company for 16 years. Despite her extremely busy current role as chief operating officer for the Scolmore Gorup, she will always make time for you.
If you’re at the bar - what are you drinking? Wine – red or white, I don’t mind.
Football, cycling, rugby, golf, gardening… what keeps you busy at the weekend? Definitely football. I’ve been a Newcastle United season ticket holder for over 20 years.
What’s your favourite film and/or favourite book? Any James Bond film.
