This month’s quick-fire interview is with David Mattin, managing director at Univolt UK.

Tea or coffee? Tea

What is your current role and how long have you been doing it? I’ve been managing director of Univolt UK for 10 years.

What does your role entail? I have responsibility for the overall running and management of Univolt UK on behalf of Dietzel GMBH. I’m also responsible for sales and distribution for Australia, Hong Kong and Univolt Dongguan.

How did you get started in this industry? I began my career in this industry as a sales representative with Newey and Eyre some years ago!

What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? My career initially developed at Newey and Eyre, following this I became branch manager for a national independent electrical wholesaler, eventually finding my way into manufacturing with Dietzel Univolt. I became managing director of Univolt UK 10 years ago.

What do you hope to achieve in your role? To continue to strengthen the Univolt brand in the UK and develop Univolt’s unique HFT (LSFOH) product range, arguably considered to be one of the safest conduit systems available on the market today.

What has been the highlight of your career? Developing Univolt from a relatively unknown brand in the UK to become a top tier supplier to the majority of the national buying groups.

What do you see as the main issues for the industry at the moment? Logistics, raw material costs, regulation and safety standards.
