It’s time to get practical for your industry

By Tessa Ogle, Managing Director of the Electrical Industries Charity

I

n our industry, there are hundreds of people who struggle to make ends meet and lead a good quality of life. Every

year, the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) helps apprentices, pensioners, employees and their families with a wide range of issues that are standing in their way of happiness – and now you can, too. Recently, EIC launched the Practical

Participation Programme (PPP), which is part of the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and is funded by powerLottery. PPP gives people like you an opportunity to get involved by volunteering your time, equipment and materials to provide the best practical support. As a partner of PPP, you will get to work alongside the EIC and its leading partners in solving or delivering large-scale solutions and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of people within the electrical and energy- related sectors.

So far, through PPP, the Charity has helped many people within the industry to turn their lives around and have a brighter future, including Elliott Angell who was born prematurely at 31 weeks in 2013 and suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. As a result, Elliott suffered from diplegic cerebral palsy which affected both of his legs, causing severe stiffness and making him unable to sit or walk unaided. Elliott was offered a life-changing surgery that

would allow him to walk. However, the operation and physiotherapy were not covered by the NHS and came at a huge cost of £75,000. Through PPP, the Charity was able to offer Elliott and his family the support they needed throughout his recovery journey by providing finance for monthly physiotherapy sessions and travel costs, as well as helping the family with their current housing situation which is not suitable for Elliott’s needs. In addition, Elliott recently received a

brand-new wheelchair from EIC, which allows him to be more independent. Without support from the industry, EIC would not be able to help people like Elliott and his family. By simply signing up to become a partner of EIC’s Practical Participation Programme, you can make a life-changing difference in many more of your colleagues’ and their family’s lives. There is no better time to start improving the

lives of those who are struggling. So, sign up to PPP today and get practical for your industry. Alternatively, you can also take part in powerLottery by downloading the EIC powerLottery app and tapping the app to play.
