Test Equipment ●From previous page

end users and duty holders the ability to quickly view and share appliance data and keep better track of faulty items. Software design engineer Matthew Frost is

part of the team that develops Seaward’s innovative software and mobile apps. Matthew said: “Connectivity via Bluetooth and smartphone means that previously ‘dumb’ devices can now transfer data remotely from the testing location to offices hundreds of miles away.” The technology means data collection and analysis can help contractors providing PAT testing services to give their clients better insights. Matthew continues: “People underestimate

the difference good software makes for testing equipment – but it’s arguably the most important consideration. “For example, we developed a new package

– Time Manager 3 – to accompany our PATGuard software. It was designed to make it easier for companies that manage off-site or remote testing staff to manage their business in a time efficient way. “A key part of what I do at Seaward involves

creating interfaces that the user finds easy to follow, while still providing them with as much information as possible.” The Apollo+ products aren’t the only ones built with increased productivity and time saving in mind.

Something we hear time and time again

from our customers is that their workloads are increasing and they need their equipment to keep up. We’ve listened carefully to this

feedback and it was a key consideration for us when we developed the Apollo+.

One of Seaward’s most advanced testing

devices, the Apollo 500, integrates a risk assessment calculator alongside the ability to test to IET 4th Edition Code of Practice. The calculator lets inspectors quickly determine suggested retest periods. It also has a variety of testing and inspection

reports tailored for health and safety engineers, including PPE, ladder checks, emergency lighting, vehicle inspections, Legionella and many more.

Another innovation in modern devices is

permanent test records. For example, Seaward’s Apollo 500 can be used to assign each appliance with a unique barcode and asset number. When you retest the appliance, the device

automatically ‘remembers’ it, runs the right sequence and records the results as part of a permanent test record.

The creative way that this technology has been incorporated into devices means incredible time-savings for contractors in the long run. For MD Andrew, continued innovation is essential. He said: “We’re constantly striving to make advances and come up with new ideas that help our customers maximise efficiency. “At Seaward we’re incredibly lucky to have a fantastic team of motivated designers who share this ethos. “The current pace of advancements in

technology means it is an incredibly exciting time for our industry and I’m looking forward to seeing even more new and pioneering ideas as we develop the devices of the future.”

Tap the app and be an everyday hero By Tessa Ogle, Managing Director of the Electrical Industries Charity

In fact, suicide is the greatest cause of death amongst young men aged 15-44 in the UK.

E These are startling statistics, but ones that

we, as a male dominated industry, cannot afford to ignore. The mental health and wellbeing of people in our industry is important to the Electrical Industries Charity, which is why we offer exclusive access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The EAP provides a range of free, confidential

support services to employees and their families – because we know that sometimes people just need to talk, and when action is needed we are there to offer a helping hand. Early intervention is key to turning a situation

around and providing the help that is needed before a person’s life spirals out of control – and we all have a part to play in changing the lives of people in our industry for the better. By signing up to the Charity’s powerLottery and giving just £1 per month, you could help

us to make a difference – and you could be in with a chance of winning one of 15 cash prizes of up to £1,000, with £80,000 in prizes to be won every year. There are 21,000 people already taking part and they are in with a chance of scooping the big prize every month. But more importantly, they are helping the Charity to continue to provide life-changing services to your industry colleagues because powerLottery continues to be the Charity’s number one income stream with 95% of every donation going straight back into the industry. By signing up to powerLottery you will be helping people like ‘Terry’*, who couldn’t share his feelings of depression with colleagues or family and as a result he became suicidal. Terry was put in touch with the Electrical Industries Charity and he is now receiving counselling and continuous support – all of which are helping him to look forward to a brighter future. Just £1 a month, which is less than the price of a coffee on the way to work, will help us to provide support to people like Terry and help us to end the stigma of mental health.

Our new powerLottery app, which is

available to download from the App Store and Google Play, makes it easy to join in the fun and with better odds of winning than the National Lottery it’s a great way to show your support for people in our industry. You don’t need to wear a cape to be a hero because every single electrical wholesaler has the power to be an everyday hero by ‘tapping the app’. Mental health issues strike where you least expect them and by supporting us now you could be supporting one of your close friends or colleagues in the future.
