Interview

buildings, streets, and municipal services are not yet green or efficient enough to successfully deal with the energy, climate, and economic crises confronting them today. Many initiatives are already in place to expand the renewable energy sources and to develop the connected infrastructure that cities need, but the scope and pace of these programs is falling far short of what’s required. We need an accelerated transition to connected LED lighting. This needs to be in the public space, in the business space, and in houses everywhere, as LED lighting does not just consume less energy but can also help the UK progress towards a greener future. While it’s great to innovate and grow the market, we don’t essentially need new technology to solve

“Customers in all spheres recognise the urgent environmental and financial need to reduce energy consumption.”

the issues we face today, we just need better adoption.

The industry endured a third year of exceptionally tough conditions in 2022. As an industry, we now need to ensure we aim for higher customer satisfaction, to not just strengthen partnerships but also to have a long- lasting positive impact on the UK’s economy.

At Signify, we are always looking for ways to improve on our diversity in the team by including more young talent in our workforce, and include a variety of experiences and nationalities. This is something the industry in the UK needs to focus on to make a bigger and better impact to the economy.

What are the key project demands for lighting and lighting controls currently, and how do you meet these?

The main project demand we can see is: futureproof solutions that can help organisations with their sustainability agenda. A lack of forward planning can compromise the value that smart lighting can bring for any organisation – be it energy saving, carbon reduction or well-being.

Can you tell me about Signify’s approach to quality assurance?

Choosing the right lighting is just one business decision. To some it may be cosmetic. But for organisations with a quality mindset, it matters. By helping businesses create a healthier, more efficient workspace, lighting can have a multiplier effect. At Signify, quality is at the heart of all our products.

We pride ourselves on the highest quality standards in the industry. Our globally standardised, gated development and testing process (NPDL) verifies and validates the design of our products, we build our products and systems to validated designs that are engineered for best-in-class reliability among many other measures. We understand that being known for quality doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of countless business decisions, each prioritising a stellar result over an inferior one.
