Relec introduces RockTouch confi guration software for touchscreen displays

Touchscreen displays can be quickly and easily confi gured to meet the needs of many application requirements and environments

T

here have been many advances in touchscreen technology in recent years which have seen the touchscreen displays being used in numerous, varied

environments and applications. One of the major obstacles to the design process has been configuring the touchscreen display – until now.

Relec Electronics, which supplies specialist display and power conversion products, and its partner, RockTouch, offer a new software configuration tool which allows users to set up and modify parameters for combined displays and touchscreens. The RockTouch Utility v01.08

Configuration Software literally puts power in the fingers of the design engineer. It allows them to control many features to enhance ease of use, sensitivity and choice of display mode.

Harsh environments

The Points of Touch feature controls the number of fingers used to operate the display. This can be used to add more gestures, such as zoom, swipe, or to simplify the touchscreen design for up to 10 fingers operation.

Touch Sensitivity eliminates ‘ghost’ touches and allows the designer to tailor the touchscreen display for used in electrically noisy environments. In industrial applications, the sensitivity of the touchscreen can be adjusted to take into account electrical noise generated by the equipment itself. Furthermore, different cover glass thickness can be specified for use in more rugged

RockTouch Utility v01.08 Confi guration Software from Relec Electronics, allows design engineers to control features to enhance ease of use, sensitivity and choice of display mode

environments and for use with gloved hands in hazardous environments.

Versatile views

To maximise versatility, the Axis Swapping feature allows the touchscreen to be rotated through 90 degrees for the same touchscreen to be used in either portrait or landscape mode.

For example, a 15.6” TFT with PCAP touch panel, used as a control panel in a lift is typically used in portrait mode, but some installations required the panel to

be fitted in a landscape orientation. The configuration tool allows the customer to operate in either mode, which improves stock control because only one module is required. In addition, pricing benefits from economies of scale.

Finally, Click Mode allows the user to change the system response from standard touchscreen to mouse emulation. This feature means that panels do not have to be returned to the factory if changes are required at any point during the development cycle. Using the RockTouch

Utility v01.08 Configuration Software changes can be made on-the-fly allow design engineers to make comparisons simply and quickly.

The RockTouch Utility v01.08 Configuration Software runs on Windows OS and requires a Rocktouch USB cable. All RockTouch Touchscreens are supplied with RockTouch Configuration Software. (RockTouch Utility v.01.03 software is built to assist RockTouch touchscreens only.) relec.co.uk
