Advertorials Industrial 3D NAND just got better
3D NAND technology has been in the mainstream consumer market for a number of years and is now becoming firmly established in the industrial market as a high capacity, durable, cost effective solution.
We have seen many companies launch SATA based 3D TLC flash storage products but less so with a PCIe NVMe interface. That is changing as we are seeing a trend towards more PCIe based applications as the data transfer speeds are significantly higher than their SATA cousins. The drive behind this switch is the demand for faster data transfer speeds. We live in a data hungry world, from IoT and edge computing to real time monitoring across the globe, and data access and storage needs to be fast and reliable 24/7.
NVMe and 3D NAND are among the most disruptive technologies we have seen in recent years, but ATP Electronics has managed to combine the speed and performance of NVMe with the reliability and endurance of industrial 3D TLC. They are one of a few true industrial manufacturers that have the in-house technical capability to manufacture this technology. In addition, they have also managed to include another key feature - power failure protection. Power failure protection ensures that the storage device retains a small amount of power in case of a power outage enabling the storage device to
in our experience the off the shelf solution will have a high probability of failure. Industrial storage places a strong emphasis on total cost of ownership, fit for purpose and quality. Industrial grade is built to last and to withstand the most intense of environments for years at a time. Of course, the most visible difference on industrial over consumer is the cost. What about the invisible costs such as; design, obsolescence, engineering, workflow, fulfilment and concept?
The key stage to start talking about memory and
product portfolios, features and services. However, ATP’s next generation of 3D TLC NAND based storage, the A600Sc and A600Si, set themselves apart from the competition and offer an excellent balance of cost, speed, endurance and capacity. These new models come in a variety of form factors; M.2 (2280, 2242), 2.5” and mSATA, depending on the end user requirement. Capacities are doubled in some form factors and speeds improved. One major advantage of ATP’s A600Sc and A600Si range is that it’s highly customisable enabling the storage to work at its optimum performance. Combined with health monitoring, power protection, advanced wear levelling and anti-sulphur capacitors (something very few manufacturers do), getting the right balance of customisation and the right storage device is a minefield. Simms International specialise in memory and storage and have done since 1990, and with our partner, ATP, can work with you to achieve the best possible right first time solution.
shut down safely and retain the data. For an industrial embedded application this could potentially save critical data, downtime and cost. All this is packaged into an M.2 2280 module.
Why Industrial?
Organisations trying to reduce costs may be tempted to purchase goods based on price and storage is no different - a 2.5” SSD purchased on- line for a fraction of the cost will do the job but,
storage in a new project is at the beginning or concept phase. Understanding the memory and storage requirements from the outset can save a considerable amount of engineering resource, time and cost by engaging with specialists who understand this technology to ensure a right first time solution. This could also help avoid any costly re-designs down the line.
There are many excellent manufacturers of industrial memory and storage all offering unique
By thinking differently Simms enables its customers to gain a competitive advantage with efficiencies in equipment, manufacturing and supply chain processes by offering world-class memory and storage solutions backed with technical expertise and customer service. Simms has become a trusted partner for over 400 companies who rely on us to deliver world-class memory and storage solutions.
