That is a lot of unnecessary emissions. “My idea for Fyous first came when dining with a New York shoe designer in China,” said Josh, “I asked why shoes never fitted me, to which she responded, the way they are made hasn’t changed for hundreds of years, designed around one male and one female foot and then scaled from there. It is hardly surprising that they don’t fit the majority of us! I took this problem to my Co-Founder Thomas, who being deeply passionate about saving our planet, saw the problem as an opportunity to reduce the impact the footwear industry has on the planet through returns and overproduction. Together we have developed the answer to those problems using 3D scanning data and Polymorphic Moulding creating affordable custom-fitting shoes for everyone.”
Fyous is already making headway with a new factory in Sheffield and trials at Birmingham’s Women’s and Children’s NHS foundational trust helping EB (Epidermolysis bullosa) patients mobility with low-cost, fast turnaround custom-fit footwear. Orthopaedic footwear has the reputation of being slow, expensive, ugly and poorly fitting. Fyous wants to change that by providing more stylish trainers that are cheaper and faster to make. Utilising their low-cost 3D scanning data capture and Polymorphic moulding means fewer fittings and alterations. About Fyous: Fyous is a brand Co-founded by Josh Shires and Thomas Bloomfield. Josh formerly Co-founded Mous Products but, more recently, Fyous and has spent the last couple of years developing dynamic moulding technology to produce varied shapes from a single mould. Thomas, like Josh, has an Engineering background with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, spending the last few years working in the motorsport, automotive and aerospace sectors.
