Q&A
Which footwear/fashion shows do you attend, how do you rate them? Are you planning to attend a Show next year, if so, which one? I will be visiting Pitti in January for the first time and cannot wait. It’s more a menswear trade show, but the best footwear brands are always present.
Have you always had a passion for footwear? How many pairs of shoes do you own? Do you have a favourite pair?
Yes, I have always loved footwear, and how it makes the outfit. My Bowhill & Elliott peacock embroidered Venetian slippers are special as they were my first pair. I also love my Edward Green semi brogue spectator and Alden cordovan penny loafers.
Any famous customers? Plenty, especially for the slippers, but it’s all hush hush.
How do you think the Government could best help footwear retailers at this difficult time, i.e. lower business rates, rents, VAT etc? Since Brexit the cost for materials and delivery has been crazy. Unfortunately, we do not have enough support in this country for the footwear industry, we need more manufacturing. Any grants or incentives for new tanneries, and components would be a good start.
Do you have any plans for the future?
We believe in slow, sustainable growth at Bowhill & Elliott. Slowly growing the presence go our own manufacturing, and pop ups/trunk shows around the country is on the cards.
