FROM THE EDITOR It’s August and Showtime again!

I hope the sun will be shining where you are by the time you read this Comment, given the deluge of rain we’ve had this year!

As usual, in August I’ll be attending Moda to bring you the latest footwear trends. I’m also looking forward to meeting up with members of the Footwear Today Best Sellers Panel and many old friends from the footwear industry. This season I’ll be accompanied by our new Group Sales Manager, Rachael Lyon - you can find out more about Rachael on page four of this edition.

I’m sure that, like me, you will be saddened by the news that Laura West, Secretary of the Society of Shoe fitters, has announced her intention to leave the SSF, after 33 years in the job. Laura’s departure will be great loss to the footwear industry…. See STOP PRESS in Footwear News on page six of this issue.

As well as previews of MODA and MICAM, in this issue we are featuring a Review of Expo Riva Schuh, which took place in July at Riva Del Garda, Italy. Also, a Review of the Harrogate Fashion Week, held 1-2nd August, which returned to rave reviews. Harrogate Fashion Week continues to go from strength to strength, with its fifth event capturing the most attention yet.

For a sneak peek at what’s likely to be flying off your shelves next summer, do check out our Editor’s Choice section on pages 22 to 28 of this issue. We have selected a stunning array of sandals and slingbacks from Europe’s top manufacturers and those from further afield, for your lady customers. If you’re attending Moda this year, do let me know, it would be great to meet up! Kind regards,

Cheryl Taylor Senior Editor
