Harrogate Fashion Week sees a 40% increase in Buyers’ attendance

T

he much-anticipated Harrogate Fashion Week, held 1-2nd August, returned to rave reviews. Harrogate Fashion Week continues to go from strength to strength, with its fifth event capturing the most attention yet.

Now with over 100 brands exhibiting. A dedicated team behind the show, ensured the weekend went off without a hitch. And what a weekend! The Harrogate Convention Centre was transformed into a veritable assortment of taste and style, and all buyers at the event enjoyed Harrogate’s famed hospitality. Harrogate Fashion Week welcomed buyers from all over the UK as far reaching as Bournemouth to Aberdeen and Dublin to place orders for womenswear, footwear, occasion wear and accessories. The fifth addition of Harrogate Fashion Week was the largest yet with visitor footfall increasing by 40%. The show had a great atmosphere with orders being placed right up until the show closed on the second day.

Amanda Knight fashion agent commented that “Harrogate has been fantastic – we are very impressed. The whole set up! Everybody is super friendly, set up was a dream, with porters available to help and free tea and coffee! Loved every minute- had a great show! It has worked fantastically, and we are really pleased to be here. It has been fabulous here at Harrogate to see all the lovely buyers all from further afield.

Exhibitor Gerard from I.nco “Harrogate fashion week for us has been a joy to be back, seeing all the customers. It is well attended, so for us as exhibitors, we are busy. Harrogate itself is a great destination, it is a comfortable and enjoyable place to work and great for networking after the show. The attendance has been fantastic and great to see the retailers face to face. We have all had the last 18 months of difficulty – closures and COVID, so this has been very positive”

“Free on-site parking was great after a long journey and our hotel was within walking distance and good rates were available. It was lovely to attend the drinks party on Sunday night and network with suppliers that I have been dealing with for over thirty years” HFW Attendee

Harrogate Fashion Week will return on the 6-7th February 2022. Judging by the 2021 event, it cannot be missed

Society of Shoe Fitters and CFHR Newsletter - Summer/Autumn 2021 edition

President Report Mrs. Nadia Arden-Scott of children’s shoe shop - Shuzu (children’s) and Footprints (adults) of Farnborough. Hello everyone and welcome to the Summer/Autumn edition

of the Society’s and CFHR newsletter. Without stating the obvious we have all had an unusual life and work experience to say the least, and there are many highs and lows that I am sure we can all share.

Sharing is what I want to talk about and the importance this has on what we do and how we will go forward. First let me share some information about myself as your newly appointed President. I have been a restaurant manager and a children’s play area owner and now in the shoe retail industry for the last 18 years (a baby compared to some of our members) and I am very passionate about footwear and fitting, as some of my reps and colleagues will know.

ShuZu is where it all started with fitting children’s footwear and has now evolved to include a second store, Footscape, where we measure, and fit adult footwear and it has been

an incredible journey. What really makes it special is that our customers are so grateful for what we do and appreciate the time and knowledge that we spend with them to ensure they have the best fitting and comfortable shoes. This would not be possible without the Footwear & Fitting Course the Society provides. Knowledge is power and gives us that passion to help us do what we do (and we all do that brilliantly).

I would like to share our council and members appreciation to Rosemary for stepping up as President and staying on a bit longer than intended, so thank you Rosemary you are a real treasure! Going forward and after speaking to various shop owners and brands I get the picture that we have all had the same struggles and uneasiness of what the future holds. However, I also get the feeling that things are definitely on the up and we all had a brilliant April opening, and that from the customer feedback we were greatly missed.

Hopefully, the public now see how we are more than just shoe shops and are essential, and this was also put forward in a letter to the PM, but we are yet to receive a response. We have some great plans for the Society for the year ahead, our new Vice President Sam of Shoedini shoes has taken the social media of the Society by the horns and waving the society

flag like a Tasmanian devil LOL! Seriously though follow the Instagram page and we will follow you back and share as much as you as can about your success stories, happy customers and brilliant brands you stock.

The more our members share the more we will get the recognition we deserve, and the more we can do to keep the society going forward. Sixteen new students are booked onto the course which is great news under the circumstances, and we look forward to more being added in the year. Please invest in your staff or recommend someone to do the course, you know it is well worth it and shows that the ‘job’ is not just a temporary one but a worthwhile career.

Lastly our wonderful secretary Laura finally had her day in court and thankfully justice was served. It was and still is a traumatic experience that no one should have to experience, and yet she continued her support to our members and the public throughout, so a MASSIVE thank you Laura it really is appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter and I look forward to bringing you more news with some great ideas and updates. Best wishes,

NADIA ARDEN-SCOTT M.S.S.F. – President & Trustee Society Of Shoe Fitters
