How did you get into footwear? Tell us about your background and your current business? My first job at 14 was working with Dolcis and Saxone, so I think that started to sow the seed for my love of shoes. I went on to work mainly in sales, e- commerce and marketing roles for Nokia, Hoptpoint, Merloni until I had my children, when I took a couple of years out to study reflexology, physiology and anatomy and baby reflexology. After spending much time in Italy, my passion grew for my own Childrens’ shoes and the realisation of how important the feet are in relation to footwear and the materials they are made from etc. which set us up for life.

store in 2007 and I had in house training from the Society of Shoefitters and also studied the course.

Where are your premises located and how many people do you employ? Do you have a high turnover of staff? Tell us about your shop, the local area, your customers and their requirements? Our premises are located at 67 Oundle Road, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire PE2 9PE. There are two main staff, myself and Pushpa Pugh who has been with me now for 3 years. At busy back to school times/school holidays we have others who come in and help with stock and fitting i.e. my niece who is currently at De Montfort, Leicester doing her final year of Footwear Design (I wasn’t to blame for creating another shoe lover – honest!). She started with me at the age of 15 and comes to help now and again. We don’t have a high turnover of staff. I try to create a job spec and

atmosphere that I hope is pleasant as well as good training so that employees want to stay. Pushpa tells me it is my passion for shoes and how I love what I do that comes across to staff and customers. Our store is primarily children’s footwear – we are a specialist fitting shop, we work with local podiatrists and specialists in their field and liaise with them with regard to requirements etc. We have a monthly visit from one of our clinics so that any parents who

have any worries can discuss this before taking any further action through their GP’s/clinics. Our local area has quite a diverse demographic, so we do try to cater for all ends of budgets. We do also stock a few beautiful Ladies brands from Italy - Franco Russo and La Ross, Emu for the ladies and we have recently taken on the challenge
