A bionic dragonfly from Festo has been recognised as a record breaker in the latest edition of the Guinness World Records, published by Ravensberger on 5 September 2019. The chapter ‘Robots’ presents the most amazing records from the world of super robots and artificial intelligence. The BionicOpter, an ultra-light flying object based on the dragonfly, is now named as the world record winner for biggest flying robotic insect.


A future of self-driving vehicles enabled by the latest high-speed 5G mobile technology is to be investigated by the University of Warwick, thanks to the installation of state of the art test equipment. The over-the-air 5G New Radio standard-compliant test user equipment (UE) in Europe has been homed at WMG, University of Warwick. The equipment will be put in Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) being tested on the Midlands Future Mobility (MFM) testbed on the University campus, to share sensor data with other vehicles and the roadside infrastructure.


Six young female engineers have been announced as finalists for the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Young Woman Engineer of the Year Awards 2019. These prestigious engineering industry awards celebrate women working in modern engineering. Amber O’Connor (25), Charlotte Buffey (21), Claire Lucas (33), Samantha Magowan (21), Shrouk El-Attar (27) and Ying Wan Loh (28) have all been shortlisted for awards.
