Full steam ahead for training at Tetra Pak

In the food and drinks industry, steam is used extensively for heating and sterilisation processes. It is important that all those involved in the specification and operation of steam systems have a good understanding of control features and maintenance. Tetra Pak Processing UK has taken advantage of Bürkert Fluid Control Systems’s steam training sessions, which are held regularly at the company’s headquarters in Cirencester, UK.

The correct design and installation of a steam system ensures safe, efficient and reliable operation. Understanding the principles that affect the performance of a steam system is very important in the food and beverage industry and also one of the reasons why Tetra Pak Processing UK has chosen to send its staff on a training course.

“We wanted to increase our knowledge and understanding of the Bürkert technology used in the control of steam processes and this course did exactly that,” said Alex Duckworth, Service Account Manager at Tetra Pak Processing UK. “The trainers were highly professional throughout the course and engaged with all the participants. The increase in knowledge from attending will definitely benefit not only my colleagues and me, but also our end customers.” Kirsty Anderson, Marketing Manager at Bürkert UK, said: “We are passionate about sharing knowledge, and our training programmes are designed to deliver the greatest benefit and education to those who attend. Our training is based firmly on the knowledge and experience we exercise on a daily basis. The course structure is well established and it is delivered in a comfortable and professional manner.”

WHY ROBOTS ARE ONE SOLUTION FOR INDUSTRY’S PANDEMIC PROBLEMS

T

he COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most significant events to hit the world since the middle of the 20th century. Its impact was identified as a major concern in

a recent ABB survey of 1,650 respondents across multiple industries in the UK, Germany, Italy, USA, China, Sweden and Switzerland, with 85.3% of

respondents viewing the pandemic as a game changer that had affected their operations. When it comes to helping tackle the impact of COVID-19, robots offer a variety of benefits: 1. Flexible insurance against uncertainty: The flexibility to handle change is one of the key benefits of robotic automation. Robots can easily be adapted to handle a variety of different processes, even enabling multiple products to be produced on a single production line. As robots have become progressively easier to use, operators can increasingly switch between different production programs in a matter of minutes. As such, they offer insurance against uncertainty, enabling companies to diversify production if required. 2. They can work alongside your workers: ABB has many examples showing how robots can work alongside

human workers to transform efficiency, productivity and job satisfaction. In recent years, the possibilities for deploying robots alongside people have been greatly expanded with the development of collaborative robots coupling fast and accurate performance with extensive safety features that help prevent against injuries caused by accidental contact. The ability to place robots safely alongside people provides a convenient and effective solution in the event of a worker being absent through sickness or time off. In the case of COVID-19, they can also fill gaps in production lines arising from social distancing requirements. 3. Round the clock operation: While some businesses have been hit hard by the COVID pandemic,

others are struggling to meet increased orders caused by unprecedented demand since growing numbers of people have switched to ordering a diverse range of different goods online.

Capable of working 24/7 at a consistent level of performance and

accuracy, both cobots and the larger robots can help process, handle and dispatch orders without the need for staff to work extra shifts or unsociable hours to get products out of the door.
