SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING & ELECTRONICS PREVIEW A UNIFIED EVENT FOR MECHANICAL & ELECTRONICS

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre on 7th-9th February. Here’s a taste of what you can expect to see...

600 of the best mechanical and electronics engineering companies in the UK, Ireland and beyond are able to offer manufacturers. Companies on the lookout for new ideas on how to boost order intake in 2023, and ways to increase operational efficiency and profitability, will do well to visit what is one of the most important engineering shows in the UK calendar. Taking advantage once more of the world

M

class facilities at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre, the show will be split as usual approximately equally between mechanical and electronic engineering. Despite offering a multitude of solutions within these two very distinct categories, the event is a unified whole. There are no physical barriers, allowing people to walk unhindered between stands. Visitors often say this is a particular attraction of the show, as it can lead to the discovery of companies and technologies that could otherwise be missed. Firms with expertise in similar areas are grouped together, allowing Technology Trails to guide visitors logically around the showground. Exhibiting companies will highlight a vast

array of high technology mechanical, electrical, electronic, optoelectronic, electromechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components and assemblies, PCBs, connectors, sensors, drives, rotary encoders, linear scales, fasteners, pressings, wireforms, springs, plastic and rubber mouldings and gaskets. Visitors can also expect to see machine tools and tooling, workholding systems, metrology equipment for both tactile and non-contact measurement and inspection, automation equipment, handling and storage solutions, plant for electronics production and assembly, additive manufacturing machines, workshop equipment, production and planning aids, and software for business and engineering applications. Industry 4.0 solutions will be in evidence

alongside controls, displays, HMIs, data acquisition systems, augmented, mixed, and virtual reality, robot and cobot machine tending

any thousands of visitors will flock to Southern Manufacturing & Electronics in February, eager to see what more than

and other automation solutions. Other products and services on offer will encompass oil and coolant supply, workshop equipment, dust and fume extraction, humidity control, workplace storage, bespoke case and foam manufacture, plastic packaging, injection moulding, hand tools, adhesives, industrial flooring, waste removal and recycling, training and financial services.

solar cells as well as across a vast range of processes in the refinement of steel and the production and packaging of food. Servo Components & Systems will be exhibiting a range of motion products including linear electric actuators, linear electric motors, servo drives, brushless motors and gearheads. These can be assembled into simple pick & place, XYZ gantry, push/pull or stacking systems for entry-level robotics and automation. Eurotherm is known for its advanced

control systems and high integrity data recording. It is a preferred partner for small to medium size automation projects that improve process efficiency, maximise availability and assure regulatory compliance. Micronel specialises in high performance blowers and fans for numerous applications including process control, packaging, gas analysis and transportation. Also of interest will be Process Parameters, an established UK manufacturer of industrial temperature sensors including thermocouples and platinum resistance thermometers. It is also a distributor for infrared sensors and thermal cameras for non-contact temperature measurement. Top Hex has over 20 years’ experience

Servo Components & Systems will be exhibiting a range of motion products

The event is also an important destination

for sourcing subcontract services. Leading practitioners will show examples of parts they have machined in a vast array of materials, from metal billets and castings to plastics. Traditional subtractive machining specialists will be joined by firms specialising in 3D printing and all will be available to discuss the broad range of skills they offer. Further subcontract engineering services include electronics assembly, finishing, test and inspection, while providers of business consultancy services will outline how they can help industrial companies to thrive. Stands that will make interesting visits

include Leybold UK, which designs and manufactures vacuum pumps, components and systems for use in the production of semiconductors, data carriers, displays and

designing and manufacturing custom electronic controls for process machinery, industrial controls, laboratories, retail environments and consumer applications worldwide. Coming over from Canada, VKS offers work instruction software to digitalise, standardise and optimise processes, without the need for paper. E-MAX Systems will be present to extol the virtues of its E- Max ERP (enterprise resource planning) software, an all-in-one business solution with integrated financial accounting suitable for any manufacturing process. Alongside the exhibition and

demonstration areas, an extensive technical seminar programme will give visitors and exhibitors alike valuable learning opportunities, with a particular focus on the technical, managerial and environmental issues facing manufacturers today. There will be two programmes, one covering mechanical engineering and the other electrical and electronic engineering. Southern Manufacturing & Electronics

2023 opens from 7th to 9th February and will co-locate again with AutoAero, an area within the exhibition devoted to aerospace and automotive engineering. There is a regular, free bus service between Farnborough’s Main and North Camp railway stations and the show. Admission and parking are also free of charge.
