SHOW PREVIEW

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to Farnborough

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, the UK’s biggest and most established electronics exhibition, returns to Farnborough from February 8th to 10th 2022

R

eports of the event’s resurrection were welcomed with a chorus of support from a large number of its perennial exhibitors,

enabling it to rapidly recover close to pre-Covid occupancy levels. High-tech production and automation, components, electronics design, business and subcontract services all will feature within the exhibition, which will gather vendors from across the UK, continental Europe and beyond. As of today, just a few stands remain and the organisers expect

the 20,000m² Farnborough International Exhibition Centre to be entirely booked by the time the exhibition opens. Expectations also run high that visitor volumes will similarly recover to 2020’s record- breaking attendance of more than 9,250 visitors. Southern’s key feature is its tremendous selection of participants, making it one of the better events within the UK to search out products and services or special engineering expertise, both locally and internationally. At a time when travelling is really troublesome, it’s a great opportunity to resolve many different procurement challenges in one visit. Just as in former years, the event is split more or less equally

between manufacturing and electronics. Within the latter, the visitor will run into quite a few familiar companies spanning an assortment of elements of the electronics sector, from production components to components and subcontract services. Production and inspection hardware exhibitors include Mycronic,

showing its adaptable PCB manufacturing solutions designed to help reduce operational overhead and enhance yield. Components showcased includes the MY300 compact placing machine, MY700 stenciless solder paste jet printing, K series 3D AOI system and the MYTower flexible storage units. Together with its regular exhibits, this year Blundell Production Equipment is launching the i-Pulse Yamaha M20 auto-placement machines, with specialists present to guide visitors through set-up and functionality. Component vendors participating this year incorporate several of

the primary brands in the UK and continental Europe. Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) employs nearly 1,100 people in 11 countries, selling in excess of 500,000 product lines from upwards of 1,200 major brand names. The product portfolio includes semiconductors, IoT equipment, optoelectronics, passive and electromechanical components, connectors plus much more. Another exhibitor, Würth Electronics is one of the world's leading

manufacturers of EMC solutions, inductors, transformers and connectors. Easby Electronics is amongst the UK’s leading vendors of electronic components, supplying a vast range of products among them custom batteries, power supplies, semiconductors, displays, electromechanical, passive components, optoelectronics, IoT devices and EV charging equipment. The show can be another excellent place to discover more specific

or specialist components for instance power supplies, displays, speciality connectors and sensors. TDK-Lambda UK is showcasing two of its most up to date power supply lines; the UK-designed CUS400M, which features multiple cooling methods plus the most current additions to its popular Genesys+ programmable power supplies. ESI Technology will highlight its GS4400 pressure transmitter

with RS-485 interface. The range includes a high pressure and sub- sea versions. Also demonstrated is its H series of pressure transmitters and transducers for usage in hydrogen applications. New items on show on the Midas Displays’ stand will include smart TFT displays with CAN bus interface, and RGB LCDs. Subcontract providers will also be a substantial feature of the

exhibition, with examples from every electronics production discipline present, from design and contract assembly to PCB production and inspection. Electronics design and software development consultancy Ignys will be offering specialist advice on designing-around the global chip shortage. Esprit Electronics will highlight its range of services, such as PCB assembly, NPI, DFT/DFM, test and inspection, conformal coating or box build. PCB specialists returning for 2022 include European Circuits and Shenzhen X-Mulong. Alongside the trade show and demo spaces, the free seminar

programme will return for 2022 in a socially-distanced format. Subject matter tackled encompass energy reduction, new technology, innovation, supply chain and business strategy, plus a more detailed examination of contemporary industrial law and post Brexit laws and regulations. Needless to say, health and safety is a key concern for both visitors

and participants. Farnborough International Exhibition Centre is one of Europe’s most up-to-date exhibition sites. Its ventilation system provides filtered fresh air throughout the building. This, along with its non-urban location and easy accessibility by personal transport, help to make it a relatively low-risk environment. There’s free onsite car parking for 3,500 vehicles, as well as a dedicated complimentary bus service between Farnborough’s train stations directly to the event. The venue itself offers a good standard of amenities such as a complimentary WiFi service together with good quality catering outlets. Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2022 opens from February

8th to 10th. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge. For more information and tickets visit:
