PRODUCTS INTERCONNECTION NEW ESD PROTECTION SERIES FOR USB TYPE-C INTERFACES
positioning between the connector and capacitor, and a second that has an extremely low trigger voltage for placement between capacitor and the system chip. The company’s TrEOS ESD
N
experia has optimised its TrEOS ESD protection diode
series for use with USB Type-C interfaces. The new USB3.2 standard introduces an optional capacitor at the Rx inputs, so the company is now launching two groups of devices, one that delivers extremely high surge robustness for
protection technology uses active silicon-controlled rectification to deliver an ideal combination of extremely low capacitance (down to 0.1pF); extremely low clamping (dynamic resistance down to 0.1Ω) and very high robustness against surge and ESD pulses (up to 20A 8/20µs for very fast datalines). Turn-on time is also very fast at about 0.5ns and devices can withstand up to 30kV contact discharge, exceeding IEC 61000-4- 2, level 4. TrEOS devices for
applications where the protection is placed before the capacitor are now available with peak pulse current ratings of 9.5, 15 and 20A for 8/20 IEC61000-4-5 conditions. TrEOS devices for use after the capacitor feature one of the lowest trigger voltages (Vt1), down to 4.3V. These features are also relevant for USB Type-A and MicroUSB interfaces. TrEOS protection diodes are
packaged in the widely-used 0603 form factor. Advantages of the very compact, very robust DSN0603-2 (SOD962-2) package include the lack of bond wires, which eliminates another failure mode and results in the lowest inductance for fastest protection.

HIGH DENSITY D- SUBMINIATURE CONNECTORS
Several series of high reliability, high density D-Subminiature connectors are now available from Lane Electronics that will suit many board to board, cable to cable or board and panel to cable or board applications. The Positronic ODD, DD, DAD,
M24308 series D-Subs are available in six package sizes with 15 – 104 size 22 contacts. They feature a 9A contact current rating and the company claims, for the best price/performance ratio, multiple performance options are available as well as RoHS and non- RoHS compliant versions. The Positronic Combo D Sub-
SINGLE POLE, HIGH CURRENT CONNECTOR WITH SAFETY FUNCTIONS
Stäubli Electrical Connectors is launching its 16BL single pole, high current connector, which has been specially designed with optimised safety functions and increased flexibility for (emergency) power supplies and industrial applications. The 16BL allows safe, intuitive use and reliable power transmission under extreme environmental conditions, even in a temperature range from -400
C to 1200 C. The new range is rated at up to 630A and is available in a simplified combination of one socket and three
plug types. Rated at up to 1000V and 5000 mating cycles, it has increased ingress protection to IP65, IP68 and IP69, as well as salt-spray resistance. The smaller number of component types makes it possible to achieve the same functionality with fewer
combinations, which simplifies planning in the engineering phase and operator use in the field. It also reduces operating and storage costs. The 16BL has a new bayonet locking system with a 450 mechanism. Cables are accepted with diameters from 70mm2
twist action and integrated safety locking to 240mm2
, using crimp or reusable AxiClamp
cable connections. Providing IP2X touch protection when disconnected, it has double class II insulation. Other safety features
include 12 colour visual coding for faster identification and compatibility with local wiring colour codes, and seven mechanical coding settings to prevent misconnection. A low insertion force is ensured by the use of the company’s Multilam technology, a proprietary contact
system that is said to use torsion spring contact elements to produce multiple contact points and ensure high reliability and low contact resistance. Conforming to IEC, DIN EN and UL standards, the connectors' reliability makes them ideal for use by electricity network operators and generator set manufacturers.

The MULTILAM flexo ML-CUX is a new two-component spring contact for high power connections. It was developed by Stäubli Electrical Connectors primarily for manufacturers of systems and equipment in the electricity supply and distribution sector.
Its design has optimised electrical and mechanical properties, producing both a high current carrying capacity and low contact resistance, thereby causing minimal contact heating even with a constant high load and after thousands of mating cycles.

Smiths Interconnect has released its SpaceNXT Q series of flexible coaxial cable assemblies. These assemblies are claimed to offer many enhancements over a QPL or commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) product. This includes the fact they are pre-tested and qualified for the space orbit environment, readily available as cut to length, dual-terminated assemblies. The company’s SpaceNXT Q series currently consists of the 105Q, 190Q, and 200Q cable models which cover key performance characteristics at various frequency bands from DC to 40GHz. They are available in standard mechanical lengths or phase-matched electrical lengths as needed. These cable assemblies have low loss characteristics, are resilient to temperature variations and meet the rigorous outgassing requirements of NASA/ESA when tested as per ASTM E595 standards.
These devices combine stainless steel or beryllium copper connectors with silver plated copper cable conductors that are soldered directly for a robust
cable-to-connector transition. They are assembled in a controlled environment, and each solder joint can be verified using a real-time radiographic (X- ray) inspection system. Q cables can be validated for a wide range of requirements regarding Engineering Models (EM) and Flight Models (FM), either at Smiths Interconnect’s in-house test laboratories or one of our qualified external facilities.

Miniature CBDD, CBHD, CBCD Series are high quality, high reliability D-Subs with the ability to mix signal, power, coax, high voltage air and thermocouple contacts in a single connector. This range of Combo D- Sub connectors feature multiple package sizes and contact variants as well as a wide range of accessories and options including blind mate and sequential mating.
