SHOW PREVIEW SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING & ELECTRONICS 2019

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2019: The UK’s electronics showcase

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to Farnborough from February 5th to 7th 2019. One of the key annual events in the UK electronics industry calendar. Here’s more of what’s on offer

ow moving into its third decade, the variety of companies taking part

gives Southern Manufacturing & Electronics massive appeal across a wide swathe of manufacturing enterprise. Gathered in the ultra-modern, stylish surroundings of the 20,000m² Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre - launched in 2018 at a cost of £35m - will be an excellent variety of providers that range from component distributors to major production equipment manufacturers. Additionally, there is a broad offering of subcontract service providers specialising in everything from PCBs to electronics assembly, alongside a complete range of other manufacturing and design services as well. Not surprisingly, considering Farnborough’s great importance at the centre of the UK’s $22bn aerospace industry, there are a significant number of AS9100-rated subcontractors featured in the exhibitor list. But perhaps even more interesting, considering the current concerns over Brexit, are the significant numbers of non-UK vendors – particularly CEMS - the numbers of which have grown no less than 26% compared to 2018. The Electronics section of the show has expanded substantially in recent years and is arguably the most comprehensive marketplace in the UK for electronics components and sub-assemblies, plus more specialised components such as encoders, controllers, drives and sensors of all descriptions. At the major end of the scale,

distributor Easby Electronics returns for 2019 with its impressive catalogue of electrical and electronic components from leading brands such as TE, Samsung, Faratronic, Taiwan Semiconductor and many others. Transfer Multisort Elektronik, one of

Europe’s biggest distributors of electronic, electromechanical and industrial automation components, also returns for 2019. The firm carries some 250,000 products from 950 leading manufacturers, encompassing semiconductors, optoelectronics, light sources, passives, connectors, relays, contactors, wires, cables, enclosures, automatics, pneumatics, workplace equipment, robotics and more. Rapid Electronics will exhibit for the first time since 2008, highlighting both its large catalogue of off-the-shelf components and its range of value-added services such as enclosure and cable customisation.

manufacturing service, offering online verification and pricing tools 24/7, component sourcing, and professional component assembly. JJS Manufacturing, a £43m turnover UK EMS partner, specialises in end-to-end procurement, manufacture and supply chain solutions. With manufacturing facilities in both the UK and Czech Republic.

The show is also a very important

showcase for subcontract services. Eurocircuits will present its five-day prototype and small series electronics assembly service. The long awaited service is supported with an online PCBA visualiser tool to provide immediate DFM feedback and online pricing for PCB, components and assembly service. The service is an extension to the company’s prototype and small series PCB

“The free seminar programme is regarded by many as one of the key features of the show. There are two separate lecture theatres, one of which is devoted entirely to electronics-related topics.”

FREE SEMINAR PROGRAMME The free seminar programme at the show is regarded by many as one of the key features, drawing a large number of delegates each year. There are two separate lecture theatres, one of which is devoted entirely to electronics-related topics. The appropriately named Rob Goddard, Engineering Director of Surrey Satellite Technology, takes a fascinating look at some of our missions the company has been involved with over the last 30 years and offers some insight into where the technologies and missions may be headed over the next three decades. Peering too into the future is Raghu Das, CEO of IDTechEx, in his presentation, “The Radical New Opportunities Enabled by Flexible, Stretchable and Structural Electronics.” Back to the present, Mike Foster, of the CE Marking Association, will look at CE Marking 2019 and Beyond; providing an insight into how the changes will affect all manufacturers. A complete listing of all the 30+ seminar sessions can be found at: https://www.industrysouth.co.uk Farnborough International Conference

and Exhibition Centre offers free car parking for 3,500 vehicles and is well- served by road and public transport links. A regular free shuttle bus service operates from both of Farnborough’s mainline railway stations directly to the show. The venue itself offers a high standard of facilities including a free WiFi service in the foyer area. Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2019 opens from February 5th to 7th. Admission to the show is free.
