PRODUCTS CABLES & CONNECTORS

A ROBUST CONNECTOR FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE APPLICATIONS

Available from Rutronik, Amphenol’s robust ExcelImate S HVSL 800 connector fulfils the requirements of the LV215 industry standard for electric vehicle applications. The HVIL contacts in conjunction with a

double-secured locking system, together with the IP69K standard tightness, ensure maximum safety, especially in harsh environments. This smaller version of the HVSL 1000 ExcelImate Plus series has been developed for power transmission in inverters, rack power distribution units (PDUs), and batteries. The connectors are available in a two- pole and a three-pole version for conductor

cross-sections from 35mm2 to 50mm2

.

These have an orange-coloured thermoplastic housing with contacts made from a silver-plated copper alloy. The connectors can withstand a rated voltage of up to 1,000V at a rated current of up to 180A, and work reliably in a temperature range of -40˚C to +125˚C.

The European Union is working towards banning PFAS – per- and polyfluoroalkyl compounds – which are harmful to the environment, humans and animals. By employing the ‘PFAS free’ seal, igus is showing that its proprietary chainflex cables are free of

harmful chemicals. All chainflex cables marked as ‘PFAS free’ are made of fluorine compound-free

materials, although certain impurities cannot be completely ruled out. This means that igus already meets international requirements for PFAS – in some countries PFAS exports are restricted and subject to notification or approval. “With the ‘PFAS free’ seal, we offer customers security and continue to strongly

promote igus’ sustainability pledges by avoiding harmful compounds,” explained Justin Leonard, director of e-chains and cables at igus UK. The chainflex cables are for use in moving applications, providing a safe supply of

energy in common e-chain applications. They are also used in cranes, machine tools and robotics. The range has grown to over 1,350 cables in a broad portfolio of cable types. igus offers control, bus, data, motor, fibre optic cables, and more.

Designed for demanding network applications in industrial settings, the Xtra-Guard Continuous Flex-rated Industrial Ethernet cable from Alpha Wire is a solution for modern factories, where Ethernet is essential for connecting automation systems and transmitting crucial field data reliably. Designed to withstand high flex, torsion and

constant movement, these robust cables have a TPE jacket material and HDPE insulation. They meet UL 2556 7.10 standards for abrasion resistance, making them resistant to flames, fuels, solvents and chemicals. In

addition, their operating temperature range is from -40˚C to 80˚C. These are suitable for manufacturing and

robotics applications – including pick-and-place, cartesian/gantry, SCARA (selective compliance assembly room arm), Delta/Parallel, and machine tools. In addition, they are said to be ideal for motion control tasks such as high-speed vision systems, encoder/resolver

applications, case formers, case packers, conveying systems and vacuum packaging. Part of the Alpha Wire Xtra-Guard Industrial Ethernet Cable range, these come with options for Cat 5e Ethernet, including unshielded, foil/braid, and Cat 6A foil/braid configuration.

0.5M LENGTH ADDED TO VHDCI CABLE RANGE

A new 0.5m length has been added to Cliff Electronics’ range of industry standard VHDCI (very-high-density-cable- interconnect) ‘Centronics’ style cables to meet the requirements for interconnecting connecting instrumentation in industries such as defence, aerospace and space. ‘Centronics’ type data cables all are terminated with

standard D-shaped connectors. VHDCI cables are used in high performance data transfer applications supporting the latest SCSI style interfaces, as well as for connecting peripherals such as portable disc drives, RAID data storage, HIL (Hardware in the Loop) applications, tape backup drives and CD-ROM players, as well as printers to computers. Although USB cables are now more commonplace, parallel cables are still required for many uses including connecting to legacy devices. The VHDCI cable connector is very small and allows

placement of four wide SCSI connectors on the back of a single PCI card slot. It uses the regular 68-contact pin assignment with the male connector (plug) on the cable and the female connector (receptacle) on the equipment panel. These offer an operating current 0.5A maximum per

contact; and an operating voltage maximum of 30V AC (RMS)/DC, the company adds.
