typical bevel helical gearbox unit with the same power, torque and speed, the company explains. Its reduced size and weight mean it can be installed directly inside a conveyor head drum. As the unit acts as a bearing, it eliminates the need for shaft and bearings requiring regular lubrication. The Drum Drive is also said to achieve a 20% higher service factor and 60% higher shaft radial load ratings. The solution features fully enclosed oil seals and has high-efficiency motor

technology from WEG. The drive can be fitted with the latest permanent magnet (PM) motors or hybrid motors integrating PM, ferrite, or neodymium magnets, along with synchronous reluctance (SynRM) technologies. Initially developed for low-speed, high-torque feeders, the Drum Drive

range has been expanded to suit high-speed, low-torque conveyors with higher power ratio requirements, thanks to the integration of motors with a higher power ratio in a smaller frame.

installing a drive with a large motor. These include initial cost of a separate drive, but also its associated electrical house (e-house), transformers, switchgear and cabling that multiply the capital cost and increase the complexity of installation. This also provides OPEX savings due to the energy efficiency it will provide. Furthermore, MV Titanium has

intelligence built in, with analytical and connectivity capabilities so it can seamlessly integrate into existing systems, as well as providing software libraries and interfaces for process monitoring and optimisation. The solution is intended for use with

pumps, compressors and fans, where it could reduce energy consumption by up to 40% as well as

enhance productivity and minimise downtime. Sectors for its use include power and renewables, processing, mining, cement and water. Heikki Vepsäläinen, president of ABB Large Motors and Generators,

commented: “The potential savings in energy costs and CO2 emissions are huge – if we retrofitted the entire installed base, it would be like

taking just over 1000 coal-fired power stations offline.” 

The new P80360-ECE stepper drive enables rapid integration into existing EtherCAT ecosystems to achieve increased throughput and machine capability. The P80360-ECE provides real-time

control and the EtherCAT communication interface supports various operating modes including cyclic synchronous position (CSP), cyclic synchronous velocity (CSV), profile position, profile velocity, and various homing modes. Providing closed loop operation via position loop control, the P80360-ECE also features an incremental encoder input for incremental 5V differential (RS422) or 5V single-ended (TTL/CMOS) devices. The new stepper drive is programmable as an EtherCAT slave,

while commissioning and management is rapidly achieved via Kollmorgen Studio. It is suitable for use with machines including labellers, indexers, CNC, packaging, pumps, and other applications requiring motion profile control with fixed loads.
