ne of the biggest concerns for electric vehicle drivers is that they will run out of power before they reach their destination
or a charging station. This fear, also known as ‘range anxiety’, is fuelled by the lack of public charging stations. In addition to this, in many areas outside the urban metropolitan regions, the density of the charging infrastructure is still patchy. Having a widespread and efficient charging infrastructure is therefore crucial for the development of e-mobility. At the end of July 2022, there were over thirty-
three thousand charging points across the UK, almost 35% more than in July last year. However, figures that include the many charging points installed at home or in the workplace are estimated at more than four hundred thousand. A daily recharge of 30-40km does not
require a trip to a public charging station – during the day, it is sufficient to plug the electric car into a socket at work or at night at home. But what about for longer journeys or if a public charger is unavailable? In a move to overcome this range anxiety issue
and encourage the uptake of electric vehicles, Juice Technology has launched the Juice Booster 2 portable charging station.
Q -What is the Juice Booster 2 and how does it work? A - Juice Booster 2 is a 22kW portable charging station designed and developed for maximum flexibility and safety during the entire charging process. The operation is so simple that it is impossible to go wrong. Thanks to a series of available adapters, it is possible to recharge the car wherever there is power. In fact, the device’s technology allows you to recharge at maximum speed and in complete safety, regardless of the type of connection, automatically setting the correct setting, whether in your own country or abroad. Simply plug it in and the device will do the rest. Adapters for various electrical connections can
be easily connected to the Booster via the Juice Connector: the station recognises directly which adapter has been connected for charging and sets the correct power that the Booster draws from the socket, whether domestic, camping or industrial. All this is absolutely safe for the user. Normally, in fact, it is not recommended to
recharge the car from the domestic socket to avoid risks of overheating or even fire. Juice Technology tackles this problem by equipping domestic sockets with temperature sensors that integrate directly into the poles of the Schuko plugs. In the event of excessive heat development, the adapter sends a signal to the Juice Booster and the device automatically reduces the charge in a regulated and coordinated manner with the car. As soon as the poles have cooled down again, charging will resume. If, after the third attempt, the plug is still too
hot, the charging cycle is completely interrupted for the safety of users. Once the temperature of the overheated poles has dropped to a normal level, the charging operation resumes, ensuring that the vehicle is fully charged.
Q - How long will it take to charge an EV? How many miles should it then give you? A - The Juice Booster 2 enables one-, two- or

Q - Is it suitable for all electric vehicles? Would it give the same number of additional miles to vehicles of different sizes or with different engine sizes? A - The charger is compatible with all electric car models equipped with a type 2 or type 1 charging connection. The 5m cable, to which a 5m or 10m extension cable can be added, and the adapter with theft-proof closure, allow the car to be recharged in various places and locations. The distance that can be travelled always
depends on a variety of factors that take into account the size of the vehicle, its weight, battery capacity and driving style. However the Juice Booster 2 allows you to fill up with energy whenever you need it.
Q -What are its dimensions and weight? A- Juice Booster 2 weighs only one kilo, excluding cables. Its lightness and small size make it particularly easy to handle, an essential feature when travelling. At the same time, however, it is robustly constructed: the main body is made of aluminium, which means it is resistant to the passage of vehicles and can withstand a wheel load of three tonnes. In addition, it resists impact and dust, and is completely waterproof. The IP67-rated seal allows it to be left outside in all weather conditions, both in winter and summer.
Q - How about security? A - The combination security lock is a simple and effective solution to protect the Juice Connector adapter from theft. During charging, the car

Q - Do you think the Juice Booster 2 will encourage EV uptake? A - In 2019 we conducted a study together with ZHAW (Zurich University of Applied Sciences) to find out how the availability of a mobile charger – in this case the Juice Booster 2 – influences the use of EVs. The result: 85% confirm that owning a Juice Booster 2 has a positive effect on the decision to completely or partially abandon combustion vehicles. 53% completely renounce the use of combustion vehicles when a Juice Booster 2 is available; and for 90% the range anxiety has decreased – for 55% even significantly or strongly. Q - Is there anything else we need to know? A -With the Juice Booster we have been the leader in portable 22 kW charging stations since 2014. The European version is a huge success thanks to its high quality, user-friendliness and safety. Now we have also been able to release the adapted version for the North American market: the J+ Booster 2. The American electricity grid has its own specifications and the market has other safety regulations, some of which are even stricter than those in Europe. It’s great that we can now also offer the device there and continue to promote and actively shape the development of e-mobility in the USA as well.
