ADVERTORIAL TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION WES Ltd

launches new initiative to tackle skills gap with the WES Academy

W

ES Ltd, the leading UK manufacturer of chemical dosing systems for a wide range of industrial process

applications, is taking action to bridge the skills gap with the launch of the WES Academy.

The skills gap crisis is

an ongoing concern for many manufacturing and engineering businesses in the UK, as fewer apprentices come into the sector and an ageing workforce leave. The gap has been particularly recognised in the Utilities sector, which has set up the Energy and Utilities Skills Partnership, with a core aim being to attract, train and enhance the utilirty sector skills base.

WES is addressing the situation by taking positive action

with a series of proactive initiatives. These include working with Southampton Engineering Training Association (SETA), running a highly regarded apprenticeship scheme and, through its recently launched skills programme, to upskill its current workforce with the WES Academy training programme.

SICK Unveils 2nd Generation Hiperface DSL® Smart Motor Sensors

Hiperface DSL® single-cable feedback system for servo drives. The SICK EDS 35 singleturn and EDM 35 multiturn encoders achieve a step-change in resolution and dynamic performance. SICK has developed the 35mm EDS/EDM 35 encoders

‘from ground up’ to fit into servo motors with a frame size from just 40mm, offering new opportunities for tight-space integration where precise speed regulation and control is critical, for example in printing, packaging or machine tools. The SICK EDS/EDM 35 motor feedback sensors

feature a newly-developed optical system with dual- channel scanning to achieve 24-bit resolution per single turn revolution, and a proven 12-bit mechanical gear design enabling up to 4,096 revolutions for the multiturn system. “This brand new encoder design achieves a factor of two increase in performance capability, compared to

The elements, which can be safely removed without specialist tooling, cleaned or steamed in place and quickly put back into service reducing unnecessary downtime, are available in wedge-wire, sintered mesh and perforated tube providing a filtration range from 5 microns up to 8000 microns. Axium’s filters provide a reliable solution for critical

applications such as a pre-filter for pumps or debris capture for CIP. The popular wedge-wire design is widely used for applications where product consistency

screen is ideal for high or low-temperatures and is used in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries for the removal of suspended solids, micro- flakes, fibres and for glass contamination prevention. For process security duties or coarse filtration applications, the company’s perforated tube screen provides a robust and flexible solution.

When more complex filtering is required, Axium’s

innovative filter systems can provide improved process efficiencies and substantial cost savings by reducing downtime, maintenance and screen renewal costs. The filter’s robust construction enables automatic or manual backflush facilities which can be fitted to the filter without fear of damaging the elements. Axium's filter systems include duplex, triplex and

multiplex options and are engineered to give a small footprint, high flow rates and substantial dirt holding capacity. Systems can be customised with support framework, sample points, drainage, vent valves and pressure gauges.

ICK has unveiled its second-generation of smart motor sensors supporting the revolutionary

our first generation Hiperface DSL® products,” explains Darren Pratt, SICK’s UK product manager for Motion Control Sensors. “Capable of collecting, evaluating and transmitting digital data via the single cable system, these encoders become true smart motor sensors delivering invaluable diagnostic feedback, right from the heart of the machine.” Resistant to shocks and vibrations, the SICK EDS/EDM

35 encoders are wear and maintenance-free Ideal for a wide range of applications, they offer the option of SIL 2 / PL d certified safety for safe speed monitoring and safe singleturn absolute position In common with all Hiperface DSL® encoders, the SICK

EDS/EDM 35 feature a usage histogram recording speed, temperature and revolution data that supports the development of preventative maintenance programmes both for the servo drive and for the machine itself.
