Mouser Electronics

to Honor Winners of Create the Future

Design Contest Mouser Electronics,

Inc., the authorized global

distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, will join in awarding the winners of the 2016 Create the Future Design Contest. The Grand Prize of $20,000 will be awarded to Hyliion of Pittsburgh, developer of a hybrid electric technology for semi-trailers. All of the winners will be recognized at an awards dinner this Friday, November 11 in New York City. Hyliion’s winning system hybridizes the trailer portion of the tractor-trailer combination and uses regenerative braking to capture power — saving over 30 percent on fuel and decreasing emissions by 10 percent. Hyliion’s technology was among more than 1,100 new product ideas submitted in the 14th annual design contest, which was established in 2002 to recognize and reward engineering innovations that benefit humanity, the environment, and the economy.

Balluff is the Heartbeat of Industry 4.0 T

he basis of Industry 4.0 is the availability of all relevant information in real time as well as the ability to at all times derive the optimal value creation flow from the data. This can only succeed if all the entries involved are networked together. Balluff sensors and identification systems collect the relevant data and ensure seamless communications with higher level systems such as controllers or clouds. Balluff with its products and solutions is a core and pacesetter of Industry 4.0 development and implementation. A key interface for intelligent communication for Industry 4.0 is IO-Link, the new fieldbus-neutral communication standard whose development Balluff has been continuously driving and promoting for years. It is as easy to use as a USB with a computer. It simplifies the installation of a system, saves costs and for the first time enables intelligent diagnostics and parameterizing concepts all the way to the fieldbus level. Experts consider it as an enabling technology for Industry 4.0.

New family of rotary position sensors

C

urtiss-Wright’s Industrial division has launched the NRH271 and NRH272, its new non-contact, rotary position sensors from Penny & Giles. With a low-profile sensor body and small footprint,

these fully-encapsulated, IP69K-rated

sensors offer exceptional performance against water, dust, shock, vibration and temperature. They are ideal for on/off-highway vehicles used in challenging environments and as cost-effective solutions for medium volume applications where wide-ranging options or degree of customization is required. The NRH271 is a 3-wire, single output variant with a supply current rating of less than 12.5mA, while the NRH272 is a 6-wire, dual-redundant output variant with a supply current rating of <25mA. The dual-die sensor has two separately- powered input supply and output channels for full electrical redundancy. Both feature a 9.5mm housing and use wear-free Hall-effect sensing technology to provide a long mechanical life.
