any facilities – including hotels, hospitals, wellness providers and nursing homes – rely on a large supply of hygienically


clean, dry, and immediately usable towels in a wide variety of formats and folding patterns. This, however, puts laundries under pressure. Terrycloth products, in particular, must


be processed quickly and systematically after the actual washing and drying so that they can be delivered on time. To meet the requirements, Texprofin of


Waregem, Belgium, produces innovative folding machines for industrial laundries which are characterised by exceptional speed and high-quality performance. Texprofin’s folding machines have been


designed to relieve human personnel of physically demanding work, while carrying out the task quickly and effectively. The main purposes are to fold, sort, stack and count washed and dried, but unsorted towels, so they can then be delivered. Ideally, they should also handle automatic size detection directly at the input station. Intelligence is therefore just as important as sophisticated mechanics. The company’s high performance Servo


Xtreme folding machine, for example, is approximately 4m long, 1420mm wide, and weighs 2.5 tons. The manually operated in- feed with a row of adjacent cotton belts is on one end of the machine. Here, the operator places individual towels of different sizes, which are measured in length and width by photo sensors as they are drawn in.

Inside, a longitudinal folding


station, a cross-folding station, and a sorter, are arranged one above the other. The towels are moved by belts through the longitudinal folding process. Two coordinated blades then perform the folding from two sides. The folded object then reaches the cross-folding station where it is drawn in centrally by reversing rollers and a supporting blast of air, while folded once. If necessary, due to the length,


it is then folded a second time by rotating rollers and a blade movement, before moving into the immediately adjacent sorting area. This is equipped with two flaps that allow unloading onto a total of four stacking units below. In turn, these discharge the towel stacks via a conveyor belt system once they have reached the required height. The combination of flap system and stacker enables simultaneous unloading processes, thus ensuring precise and continuous operation. There is a reject container into which damaged or insufficiently
