E-PAPER DISPLAYS CAN NOW OPERATE AT TEMPERATURES FROM 0˚C TO +40˚C

A new wide operating temperature range has been added to Pervasive Displays’ (PDi) Spectra e-paper displays (EPDs), enabling the black, white and red displays to operate from 0˚C to +40˚C. The range comprises 12 EPD modules with size options from

1.54 to 12.2in. EPDs are bistable, meaning that they require no power to display an image and use very little power to update the screen. The one time programmable (OTP) feature of each EPD module operates alongside the internal timing controller (iTC) to store an image waveform inside the display driver. As there is no requirement for the host processor to load an image at start up,

the time to first image is reduced, improving the user experience. Alchin Wang, general manager, said: “We’ve increased the lower

end of the operating range of our Spectra EPDs down to 0˚C from 10˚C. As the uppermost temperature they are capable of operating in is +40˚C, these low power screens are now a great option for a variety of applications where reliability is paramount – such as in cold chain, healthcare and warehouse setting.

CONNECTORS FOR HARSH AREAS

binder’s Harsh Environment Connector (HEC) Series 696 has been supplemented by flange and cable variants with built-in protective conduit adaptation. The integrated sealing function of

the protective conduit screw connection allows cables and conductors routed in a suitable corrugated tube to be reliably protected to IP67. Once locked on both the plug and the receptacle sides in a manner typical for HEC, the connector achieves the degree of protection IP69K.

HIGH STRENGTH TRANSPARENT LID ENCLOSURES

The transparent-lid version of OKW’s IN-BOX industrial electronic enclosures is now available in polycarbonate (PC) for extra strength and flammability resistance. According to the company, IN-BOX offers high levels

of impact resistance to IK07/08; ingress protection to IP66/67; and the sealing gasket is pre-foamed in the top. Furthermore, quarter-turn stainless steel lid screws speed up installation and maintenance. The enclosures can be mounted on a wall, either directly or with brackets (accessory) for external installations. Inside, there are screw pillars for DIN rails, PCBs and mounting plates. IN-BOX is available as standard in light grey in a choice of high-gloss plastics:

ABS or polycarbonate. The transparent-lid versions can be specified in either ABS/PC or now PC for higher impact and flammability ratings. The PC enclosures comply with fire safety standard UL 94 5V (better than V-0), although the material has only the classification V-2. There are three versions available – opaque lid ABS, transparent lid ABS/PC

and new transparent lid PC – in 16 sizes from 84 x 82 x 55mm to 302 x 232 x 110mm. An opaque lid PC version is available in ten sizes from 84 x 82 x 55mm to 302 x 232 x 110mm. These tough enclosures for terminal installations suit a wide range of applications

including digital and analogue instrumentation, sensors, interfaces, security systems, HVAC, machine building, construction equipment, Smart Factory and Industry 4.0.

New from Invertek Drives is the compact Optidrive Coolvert, a high-performance variable frequency drive (VFD) designed for OEMs to optimise the performance and lower the energy costs of BLDC compressors used in heat pumps and condensing units According to the company,

being one of the smallest in its class, this provides machine builders with opportunities to reduce panel space and lower machine costs. Furthermore, being designed to operate specifically with CO2

range of environments, including retailer chill and freeze refrigeration systems. It is also compatible with all motor types, including induction motors, permanent magnet motors, brushless DC motors, synchronous reluctance motors and Line Start PM motors ranging between 1.5kW to 11kW, 2HP to 15HP. In addition, it has single and three-phase input of 200V to 480V. Further features include Modbus RS485

refrigerant

condensing systems, it can provide end-users with energy savings of up to 25%, Invertek adds. For use in applications involving CO2

refrigerant

systems, Coolvert helps meet the EU F-Gas (Fluorinated Greenhouse Gas) regulations. With an ambient operating range between

-20˚C and +60˚C, this is suitable for use in a wide Depending on the version, Series 696

power connectors with a fast-locking bayonet design are approved for a rated voltage of up to 600V and an operating current of 32A. Crimp contacts are used to ensure a secure, vibration-proof, connection. The products are available in cable or flange versions with five or 12 power or signal crimp contacts. These have been developed using

materials that resist UV light and corrosive salt spray and allow more than 1000 mating cycles at temperatures from -40˚C to +100˚C.

NEW HIGH SENSITIVITY NTC THERMISTORS

A new range of high sensitivity NTC thermistors in a choice of hermetically sealed glass or epoxy encapsulation have been launched by Variohm EuroSensor. These are aimed at tight tolerance instrumentation tasks requiring outstanding reliability and/or where small temperature changes need accurate control. The ENTC EB series with colour-coded epoxy encapsulation and Alloy 180 leadwire

is available for low to mid-range measurement from -40 to +150˚C, and features a dissipation factor of 2mW/˚C and a thermal time constant of 10 to 15 seconds. The higher performance specification for the ENTC G1B glass sealed thermistor version includes a faster time constant of seven seconds, a dissipation factor of just 1mW/˚C and an elevated temperature range from -40 to +250˚C. The glass encapsulated ENTC G1B version also has dumet leadwire for optimal glass-to-metal sealing. Initial launch availability includes six resistance options for the epoxy sealed version from 100Ω to 50kΩ and seven range models for the glass encapsulated version from 1kΩ to 100kΩ.

communication, allowing seamless connection to any external application controller; and an IP20 rated front and an IP55 rated rear. Its through-panel mounting allows the drive’s power

electronics to be cooled by the chilled air

of the condenser. This enables OEMs to select the smallest panel size for the control of the electronics, while removing heat generated by the drive and maintaining the IP rating.
