MINIATURE RELAY MEETS TEST RIG REQUIREMENTS
Pickering Electronics has developed a miniature high voltage relay for use in a new test rig designed by ON Semiconductor. The company identified the need
for a reed relay with a stand-off voltage of at least 400VDC, which was also small enough to meet its demanding high switching density requirements. The internal clearance constraints required by the uprated specs would not fit within the package dimensions of other miniature relays. However, in just seven weeks, Pickering was able to send the first prototypes of a device housed in the mini-SIP package with a footprint of 12.5mm x 3.7mm and a height of 6.6mm, able to deliver a minimum stand-off of 1500V. With a choice of three, five or 12 volt
coils, with optional internal diode, Series 131 reed relays are available in the 1 Form A (energise to make) SPST N.O. configuration, and can switch up to 0.7 amps, 10 watts.

MEETING INDUSTRY 4.0 DEMANDS
New to Carlo Gavazzi’s NRG series of solid- state relays are the NRGC main controller, NRGCN proprietary cables and a new range of solid state relays, the
RG..CM..N. According to the
company, the NRGC main controller makes
it possible for the machine controller to exchange data with the solid state relays, which provide the user with more efficient processes, real-time data monitoring, prevention of machine breakdown and accurate troubleshooting. The
RG..CM..N offers integrated monitoring and a
communication interface to provide variables and diagnostic information in real-time. The variables include current, voltage, frequency, power, energy consumption, load and real SSR running hours. The status of each
RG..CM..N is accessible. With this, it is possible to control the output of the solid state relay through the communication interface. Apart from ON/OFF switching, the
RG..CM..N can be controlled in various modes, such as % power value in Burst, Distributed or Advanced full cyclic switching modes. The RGS..N’s (without heatsink) output ratings go up to 660 VAC, 90 A. The NRG series is said to suit heating applications where
reliable and precise maintenance of temperatures is crucial, such as on injection machines, extrusion machines and PET blow moulding machines, packaging/wrapping machinery, etc.

POLYMER HYBRID CAPACITORS
A smaller, 12mm long, version has been added to Panasonic Industry Europe’s Conductive Polymer Hybrid Capacitors SMD portfolio. Developed with the automotive sector in mind, the new ZS-Series not only expands the capacitance range and doubles ripple current capability, but is also rated at 4,000 hours endurance at 125˚C. Devices in the ZS-Series range from
25V to 63V, with a capacitance range covering 560uF, and an even lower ESR down to 11mΩ with ripple current of 4Arms. As well as saving space, the lower ESR and higher ripple enhance filter and DC-link circuits in automotive control and powertrain applications.
